Do You Need a Job Here s Your Chance for UNRRA Cattle Ships
The Brethren Service Committee seeks 1000 men to serve on UNRRA livestock ships. Applicants need cattle handling ability and a desire to aid others. Since June 1945 about 5,000 volunteers from across the U S and Canada have taken trips carrying horses, mules and cattle to ports then onward to Europe. Ships depart from Portland Maine Baltimore Newport News Savannah New Orleans and Houston with trips lasting five to seven weeks. Minimum age 18, pay 150 dollars plus maintenance on ship, travel to port covered by the cowboy. UNRRA ends December 31, 1945, so apply to Brethren Service Committee New Windsor Maryland.

Oil line break draws large crowd near Carthage
An oil line break four miles west of Carthage at Sohio Oil sparked a large gathering as crews repaired the leak. About 800 gallons spilled, coating ground for several feet while oil burned, with dense black smoke drawing onlookers for miles. the break was found by Jack Fagel while hunting on the Don-14 Jessup farm and reported to the company.

Knightstown Youth George W. Livingston Dies After Illness
George William Livingston 16 son of Mr and Mrs Chester Livingston died at Methodist hospital Saturday from a cerebral hemorrhage after a brief illness. A Knightstown basketball team member and notable athlete he complained of head pain Friday night and left a gym event to go home. Funeral services were held Tuesday with burial in Glen Cove Cemetery. Survivors include sister Mary Lou and brother Chester. Mr Livingston managed Goodman’s Department Store in Knightstown.
