Marvin Johnson of Carthage representing Indiana finished fifth in the National Mechanical Corn Picking Contest held Friday in Vinton Iowa. Lewis Cox of Gallatin Missouri won using a one row pull type New Idea picker amid 12 degree weather and a 10 000 spectator crowd. Other top five finishers were Ed Brown Vinton Iowa Richard Porter Gallatin Missouri and Glen Smith Leona Kansas.

Former Pastor Murray S. Kenworthy Dies in Indianapolis
The Rev. Murray S. Kenworthy former pastor of the Friends church died Saturday night at Methodist Hospital Indianapolis from a heart attack. A New London Indiana resident he retired in 1947 after serving as executive secretary of Indiana Yearly Meeting of Friends. He taught at Earlham College and led pastorates in several Indiana towns and Washington DC. Survivors include his widow Violet Cosand Kenworthy and three sons living in the east.
