Carthage 1962 graduates along with Eugene R Gardner class sponsor Mrs Gardner and Mr and Mrs Ralph Brenton were hosted to a 5 PM Sunday dinner at the Fletcher Methodist Church annex by Mr and Mrs Hubert Hunt and daughter Pam Decorations followed the class colors mint green and white and white carnations A large decorated cake bore the inscription Congratulations Class of 1962 The buffet meal featured assistance from Mr and Mrs Ralph McClarnon and Mr and Mrs Joe Duke.

Thirteen springs at Spring Hill Farms are intercepted and diverted into a channel and tiled underground a mile and a quarter to the north stream. Arlington Softball League opener features seven teams
Marvin Knoop league director announces the Arlington Softball League will feature Perfect Circle, Lannings Fairland, Greensburg, Arlington, Carthage and Manilla. Games run Tuesday Thursday and Friday through June 14 with rain dates on Fridays. Season runs to early August with 7:15 and 8:30 start times. Baseball in Arlington begins June 6 with midweek games. The Leadbetter Drug Store in Carthage will close on Saturday June 2 after the death of owner Harry Leadbetter. O C McCarty administrator of the estate has run the shop since December and no buyer or pharmacist has come forward to continue the business. The store traces to 1898 and has been a local landmark, with a noted history including a 1951 fire and prior ownership shifts. A reputable agency is handling the sale but no definite offers have been received.

The summer baseball and recreational program for 4th through 8th graders and high school players begins next week under Coach Norman McCloskey. A May 28 meeting at Carthage High School will organize Little League teams and high school schedules with home games at Carthage.
George B. Moore Dies at 84 in Rushville Area
George B. Moore, 84, of Carthage and North Main Street, died Wednesday at Rush Memorial Hospital Rushville after two years of declining health. Born August 15 1877 in Posey Township, he married Diane Sharpe in 1898. Survived by three sons Otto Parvel Forrest, a daughter Marjorie Cushing, ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren, a brother and a sister, plus a half sister and half brother. He served as Rush County Clerk 1916 1919 and was active in the East Street Christian Church. Funeral Friday at 2 p.m. at East Street Christian Church. Burial in Rushville East Hill Cemetery Mausoleum.
