The fourth of eight welfare employe institutes for parole work was held in Rushville with 13 counties represented. State welfare administrator Thurman A. Gottschalk opened the meeting. speakers included John H. Klinger, Frank D. Hope, Merritt Boyer, and Gordon E. Wiest. Attending counties were Bartholomew, Brown, Decatur, Fayette, Franklin, Hancock, Henry, Johnson, Randolph, Rush, Shelby, Union and Wayne. Additional sessions are set for Marion May 23 Fort Wayne May 24 Madison May 28 and Washington May 29. The all day meetings feature addresses and round table discussions on parole supervision.

Poisonings May Shut Sewage Plant Near New Castle
Five hogs on the Saffel farm near New Castle died after possible contamination of Blue river waters. The $400,000 sewage disposal plant may be shut down until industrial waste from Ingersoll Steel and Disc Company Chrysler Corporation Rose City Packing Company and the Indiana Village for Epileptics is routed through it. City officials questioned why the plant was not treating all sewage and considered suspending operation until the situation is clear.

Carthage Roads Targeted in County Surfacing Plan
Supervisor Frank Lawrence says about 28 miles of Rush county black-top roads will be resurfaced this summer. The project covers the Carthage to Henderson to state road 52 route and Carthage east to the Fayette county line, with patches on Highway 44 to 244 via Gowdy and the Henry county line to Raleigh. Officials plan adding about ten miles to the hard surfaced network, though specific roads are not yet decided.
