Mrs Lavada Clevidence has accepted a position at Eli Lilly Laboratories in Greenfield. Mr and Mrs A B Thompson attended a funeral directors convention in Indianapolis on Wednesday.
Mrs. Erastus Brown entered Rush Memorial hospital last week for observation and treatment. Mrs. Vern Plummer returned Saturday from the Methodist hospital after major surgery and is reported improving.
The Eighth Grade commencement will be held at East St. Christian Church next Sunday night May 23 at 7 30 DST Rev H D Rich will be the speaker.
Installation of new officers for the coming year will be held at Bertram Howard Post No 316 American Legion next Wednesday night May 26. Elected leaders include Commander James Pope Vice commander William F Beck Finance officer James Ellis Sgt at arms William Gatewood Chaplain Glendle Osborne Executive committee George B McNabb Eugene Gardner Robert McKain Roy Hearne Richard C McNabb with Robert McKain to serve as adjutant.
Miss Barbara Parker niece of Mrs. B F Neal graduates from DePauw University this year and serves as an attendant to the queen on May Day.
Mr and Mrs Thomas Bush and Mr and Mrs Denning Nelson of Arlington spent last weekend at the Tulip Festival in Holland Michigan.
Cub Scouts of Pack 26 hold their monthly meeting next Tuesday at the Community Center. Den Mothers urge full attendance with as many parents as possible as plans for the softball team and summer schedule are discussed. Wolf books for new Scouts priced at 45 cents. A local Lions Club sponsored committee finalizes a petition for a new fire house and expanded fire protection policy this week. Residents not yet contacted may sign at Fred Parish’s insurance office where petitions are available. The drive hopes to reach about 85 percent of town homeowners as volunteers visit homes.
Miss Susie Bentley fell Tuesday at the home of Mrs Grace H Porter where she lived breaking her left hip. She has been in poor health for some time and was taken by Thompson ambulance to Rush Memorial Hospital Rushville accompanied by Mr and Mrs Howard Winslow.
Marion widow of Dr. H M Gear passes away Saturday after complications in Marion hospital. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p m in Raven Mortuary with interment in Marion cemetery. Mrs Gear had visited Carthage relatives often.
Construction base bids for the eight room New Palestine school totaled 130101 dollars. Sugar Creek School Township bonds of 160000 dollars were sold May 14 but not yet delivered. Low bid acceptance awaits delivery of bonds to The Fletcher Trust Company Indianapolis and others. Bonds issued at under 2 percent interest.
Mrs. Laura Benson fell from a neighbor's porch and fractured her left wrist last Thursday. She is receiving medical care and is listed in stable condition.
Beta chapter of Chalmers will host the national convention of Kappa Kappa Sigma sorority on May 22 23 at Indiana Beach Shafer Lake. The event includes housing Beach House Terrace Gardens meals Beach activities and a full Sunday program with installations. Delegates from Indiana Michigan and Illinois total 250 300.
About 245 alumni and spouses gathered Saturday at Carthage High School Gymnasium for the Second Annual Meeting of the Carthage Alumni Association. Attendees from multiple states joined local members for remarks, music, memorials, and a turkey dinner hosted by Band Boosters.
Four Rush County youths Barbara Buhler Maxine Wagoner Richard Earnest and James Martin were named State 4 H Scholarship recipients to Purdue University for the coming year They earned the awards based on state tests high school records 4 H achievement and financial need exempting half semester fees for four years James Martin also received a Kroger Company two hundred dollar cash award James is a former Junior Leader Club president and 1953 54 National 4 H Congress winner
FRENCH LICK Ind Leo GC Craig publisher of the Delphi Journal was advanced to the presidency of the Indiana Republican Editorial Association at its annual meeting. Craig joined IRHBA in 1941 after purchasing the Journal and has served on its board as treasurer and vice president. He hails from Carroll County and has worked in teaching farm public relations and various civic roles.
Arlington opens its softball season with two exhibition games on Thursday at the Arlington diamond. Regular league play starts Tuesday next week under Arlington program head Norman Morris. Seven teams are signed with hopes for eight. teams include Rushville Arlington Morristown Laurel Mays Carthage.
Elmer C Forks of Fort Wayne was installed as Grand Master of Masons in Indiana at the Grand Lodge F. and A.M. meeting. He is president of Holsum Bakery Co. and member of Home Lodge No 342. New officers and appointments were announced including Batchelor as Deputy Grand Master and Miller as Senior Grand Warden.
Community message urges every boy and girl to attend the first class as Vacation Bible School nears June 1. Teachers and schedule to be announced next week in Citizen. Parents are asked to help with Pray Plan Persuade and make the effort a success.
Mr and Mrs Roy Peterson of Monticello and Mr and Mrs Allen Lindley of Indianapolis were Sunday guests of Mrs Ria Gray and Mr and Mrs Owen Gray and their son.

Twenty one members of Carthage High School Class of 1954 received diplomas at a community center ceremony. Dorothy Caldwell, James Gray, Norma Hamilton, Patsy Hughes and 16 others were honored as the band played Pomp and Circumstance. Dr. Robert B. Pierce delivered the commencement address. The Woman's Literary Circle Scholarship Cup went to Marilyn Lesley for highest four year average. Violet Logan earned perfect attendance and Phyllis Hull won the Legion Citizenship Award.
Citizens of Fountaintown near U.S. 52 seek to install 18 modern street lights with a five year prepay proposal from Indiana Public Service Company. The company would cover installation if the estimated current costs for five years total about $2,600.
Pvt and Mrs Robert E White of Camp Pickett Virginia arrived Thursday evening for a 14 day visit with his parents Mr and Mrs John White and other relatives and friends.

Several couples visited friends in nearby towns as they shared meals and calls, with visits noted in Marion New Castle and Indianapolis. Chairman Albert J Wedeking warns cans may be removed if misused by small communities seeking garbage disposal. He notes a state law penalties up to 100 dollars and 30 days in jail for roadside littering and urges careful pulling on and off the pavement near can locations. Mr and Mrs Clifford Boger and daughter Janet have moved to Charlottesville after purchasing the Hartzell property on U S 40. Mr and Mrs Lloyd Williams of Charlottesville attended church at Moreland Indiana with Mrs Ida Williams. Mrs Williams, aged 85, received the bouquet for being the oldest mother. Mrs Charles Roland and Mrs Russell Roland traveled to Indianapolis last Thursday. Mrs Lillie Griffin of Wichita Kansas came for the alumni meeting last Saturday evening and stayed for a visit. Mr and Mrs Robert Roland and children and Mr and Mrs Russell Roland visited Gray Mortuary in Lebanon Sunday afternoon to pay respects to Earvin Deakens who was killed in an accident Thursday. Mr and Mrs Ray Fox of Indianapolis returned Saturday evening from a Florida vacation and spend the week with her parents, Mr and Mrs Russell Roland.
