Corn as Livestock Feed and Balanced Rations
Clemson professor L V Starkey notes corn is the staple forage for livestock but deficient in protein and minerals and costly. He advises mixing corn with soybean hay or pea vine hay, and using silage with cottonseed meal or legume hay. With cheaper feeds like rice meal and oats, farmers should balance rations to conserve profits.

Live Stock Notes on Feeding and Care
The notes cover stock feeding and management tips including the value of warm water for stock, docking and castration at ten days, a six word stock sermon about better sires, bedding to prevent hog sweating, feed wagons for fall and winter hog feeding, clover hay acceptance by cattle, poor mix of prairie hay and corn for pregnant animals, and lambing needs with nitrogen rich fleece requiring muscle and bone building feeds.
