Principal Charles Morris announces kindergarten enrollment for Carthage will be Friday May 9 from 8:11 a.m. in the school kindergarten room. Children must be 5 years old on or before October 15 and must be accompanied by a parent who brings the birth certificate.
The Junior Young People of the East St. Christian church met April 24 at 6 30 p m in the church basement. Twenty two members attended for Bible study games and refreshments. Refreshments were served by Buddy Willey and David Plue. News Reporter Trina Clayton.
Seventeen Carthage youths joined about 400 attendees at the District MYF gathering Sunday at Brookville Methodist church. Dr H C Eisner of Rushville installed new officers. Rev Carpsaddle Indianapolis District superintendent spoke on How To Be A Success. Refreshments concluded the event.
Mr and Mrs John Wagoner attended a music recital Sunday at St Mary's school in Rushville. Their great grandchildren Barbara Jo and Butch Floyd, children of Mr and Mrs William Floyd of Milroy, played solos Barbara Jo on piano and five year old Butch on drums.
Rush County highway superintendent Frank Lawrence resigns due to ill health after a stroke. He has been confined at home in Arlington for some time. Oliver Readmond appointed by the commissioners to serve until a new superintendent is hired.
Mr and Mrs Alva J Brown of Rushville R R welcome the birth of two daughters Saturday at Rush Memorial Hospital The newborns are described as granddaughters of Mrs Anna Brown of Carthage.
The Better Business Association of Carthage reschedules its business meeting to Thursday noon May 8 due to the election. Original plans to meet on Tuesday May 6 are canceled.
The Auto License Branch and the Accounting Office will be closed Tuesday May 6 due to Election Day.
The Indiana Yearly Meeting Pastors Conference was held April 25 at Carthage Friends Church. Dr. Harold Kuhn of Asbury Seminary spoke to a good attendance. Lunch was served at noon by The Guild.
Fred Brooks fell Tuesday on the basement floor of the Carthage Hotel while firing the furnace and broke his right wrist bone.
Mrs. Howard Finch underwent major surgery at Rush Memorial Hospital last Thursday. Ben Neal was released from the hospital Wednesday after several days treatment and observation. Dickie McCorkle, son of Mr and Mrs Lowell McCorkle, was taken to Rush Memorial Hospital Saturday for treatment of poisoning and released Thursday. Mrs Caleb Marsh was released from the hospital Monday after major surgery.
The M Y F met Monday evening on April 28 with songs led by Jim Terhune. Rev. Davis read scripture and installed the new officers headed by Jeannine Terhune as president. Plans for the coming year were discussed and a Bene diction followed by refreshments and recreation.
Carthage High School seniors led by Mr. Charles Morris and Mrs. Hulda Fort recount a long bus tour from Carthage to Columbus Pittsburgh Gettysburg Washington New York and Hershey with stops for churches a palm reader a Senate autograph and a trip to Radio City. The page also notes the Junior play The Skeleton Walks production staff and the upcoming Prom plus calendar items including a May 8 baseball game and a May 9 class play.
The Chi Rho group held a 7 p.m. meeting in the church basement with 24 members present. Linda Harrold chaired, Robert Kendall led songs, and new officers were Ronnie Fannin president, Gene Patterson vice president, Cindy Brooks secretary, Marilyn Pitts song reader, and Charlew Morris pianist. The district meeting is scheduled for Sunday, December 4, at St. Paul, departing the church at 1:00 p.m.

Lavonne Nigh age 53 wife of Earl W Nigh died at her Brownsburg home Tuesday about midnight after four years of illness. She leaves two sons Carl Brownsburg Harold New Castle a daughter Norma Lee Henley Richmond two grandchildren one sister Enid Burkher Carthage and one brother Joe Binford Peru. Ernest O Maxwell 72 of Carthage Indiana died at Hancock Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He lived in Hancock and Rush counties 26 years farming. Survived by widow Eva and 11 children plus 25 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Services 11 am Wednesday at Maxwell Methodist Church with Rev. Cooper and Rev. Bantz. burial Park Cemetery.
The Charlottesville and Westland Alumni Association will hold their annual dinner meeting on May 3 at 7 o clock. Because of address changes a current list was unavailable to the secretary and all members who did not receive a card are urged to attend.

Frank Clark, a Carthage High School junior, earned a silver medal in Latin IB after reaching the State Latin Contest finals in Bloomington. Indiana University previously awarded him a medal for high scores in the State Latin Finals. He attended with Mrs. Vada Lord as Seymour High School took the gold in Division IIB.
Voters face a busy ballot next Tuesday with Republican trustee candidates Roy Ellis and Ralph Truitt in Ripley township. Democratic candidate William H. Skinner is unopposed. County races include four Republicans for county recorder Isabelle Dill Helen Winkler Janice Renegar Loren Shields and sheriff nominees Robert May and Bert George. Other offices span assessor commissioner and council seats across Ripley Center Posey and surrounding townships with numerous candidates listed.
The Future Farmers of America held a Father Son banquet at 7 30 p m last Thursday in the Carthage school cafeteria with thirty eight attendees. Paul Turner gave the invocation. Bob Harrold received the DeKalb Agricultural Award as outstanding Carthage Senior in Agriculture. Principal Charles Morris Bayard Baker Leonard Jackson and Lee Patton attended along with FFA members and fathers.
Mr and Mrs Hubert Hunt entertained guests Wednesday night with a dinner party at the Kopper Kettle in Morristown. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Bill Alexander, Mr and Mrs Tom Shields and Rev and Mrs C L Davis of Carthage.
