Very Light Rainfall Report For Rush County May Update
May rainfall in Rush County was very light, ranging from .26 to 1.3 inches. Jackson and Ripley townships led May totals with 1.2 and 1.3 inches respectively, while Walker recorded the lowest May total at .4 inches. Over April and May combined, Jackson topped the two month total with 13.43 inches and Walker had 10.0 inches. Thirty five cooperators participate in the rainfall study across townships.

First Rush County Lamb Pool Holds Record Consignments
The first Rush County Lamb Pool drew 110 head of sheep and lambs, with 84 lambs and 26 ewes and yearlings. Eighty four lambs graded top two, 34 double blue and 41 single blue. Paul Graue of Indiana Producers Livestock Marketing Association officiated. Lambs shipped to Cincinnati after the sale. Mark Ellis led consignors with 32 head in top two grades. Second big pool set for July 8 from 6 to 9 PM.

Rev. Jack Wallace will leave Carthage this Sunday with his wife and sons Terry and Bryan. He will attend the Annual Conference of the Methodist Church at Bloomington and likely receive a new appointment in the Columbus Methodist district on June 21. Mrs. Wallace and the boys will stay in Evansville with her parents. The Wallaces moved to Carthage two years ago from Evansville after studying at The Methodist Theological School in Ohio, and Wallace has completed his formal training and graduated May 11.

Head on Crash Injures Two Men Near Marion County Line
Marvin L. Knoop a 29 year old basketball coach at Franklin Central High School in Marion County and Richard M Small 39 of Bluff Road Indianapolis were injured in a head on collision on a narrow Sugar Creek bridge east of the Marion Hancock County line. Clarence J. Henley 60 a Carthage businessman died at Rush Memorial Hospital after months of illness. He owned Tubby’s Place billiard parlor for 22 years and lived at 106 South Market. Funeral services were held at Hampton Mortuary Carthage with Revs Kendall and Buck officiating. He was survived by his wife Violet Gardner and family including two daughters two sons a stepdaughter and a stepson. He was a 1922 Carthage High School graduate and member of Fletcher Methodist Church.
