About 600 people attended at Walnut Ridge church on May 30 to mark the 110th anniversary of its founding. Rev. Oscar Trader of Van Wert Ohio delivered an inspiring morning sermon as a choir, with Mrs. Hubert Hunt and the Chappel sisters singing. A museum of old pictures and documents was shown, and a large noon dinner followed.
John Ruse and family leave the point of the V for Kokomo. York Howard family moves into the Ruse residence. James Smiths expected to occupy the Howard house. Harold Ruby and his family relocate to Minnie Adkins property on North Main. Ralph Henderson buys the Miner property on North Main formerly Robert Sands. Willard Cox plans to move to Weaver property on South Main. Eddie Carter and family build a new home on the East branch of the V while staying in their current South Main rental.
Mrs Harry Elder is recovering well after a major operation at Methodist Hospital Indianapolis. Mr and Mrs Finley Nelson and daughter and Mrs Ella Nelson visited at the hospital Sunday.
Mr and Mrs Harold Ruby and their son John Allen visited Sunday dinner with Mr and Mrs C W Myers in Rushville.
Rush County grand jury returned two indictments against Rushville residents after a two day session with county prosecutor Orlando F. Ingle. Otto E. Humes aged 70 is charged with failing to account for 6186.74 in a guardianship report filed February 20 1937. Ferdinand Retherford to serve as guardian. Humes was taken into custody by Sheriff Dallas Hardwick and Deputy Bennington. The panel also reported on the county infirmary and jail praising management as clean and orderly but recommending a jail door on the stair landing and shower baths. The infirmary staff Luther Renegar and wife noted need for refrigeration and dormitory alterations.
Harold Aiken of the Center neighborhood was elected captain of the 1938 Franklin College baseball team. A former Mays High School star, he has played varsity since his freshman year and led key roles in Franklin's baseball and basketball teams. He succeeds Norman Vandiver as captain.
Mr and Mrs Raymond Manche welcomed a baby boy born Tuesday morning June 1 weighing 71 percent of a pound.
Indiana Farm Bureau President Hassil E. Schenck announces district meetings the week of June 8 to brief farmers on the farm bill before Congress. The sessions cover parity pricing for major crops, loans on stored grain, and marketing emphasis with quotas possible if oversupply continues. Districts 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and 10 schedule meetings in Hamlet Albion Delphi Marion Crawfordsville Newcastle Linton Rushville Scottsburg Boonville and more.
Miss Pearle Coffin reports the birth of a son named Robert James to Mr. and Mrs. Robert S. Coffin of Los Angeles California on May 7. Robert S. Coffin is the son of Cyrus W. Coffin.
McDaniel and Bradford's window showcases Union Bible school work completed recently. The display highlights the weekly VBS projects and aims to attract public attention to the program.
The boys and girls of the 4-H club will hold a joint meeting at J. H. Behr home on Tuesday night June 8.
Rowland E. Clark a retired druggist died Friday at Ball Memorial hospital Muncie after an operation. Born on a Carthage farm he lived in Wabash Elkhart and farmed near town. Survived by wife Mary Gabby a brother Lindley and sister Abbie Clark services were held in Washington D C.
Roy D. Bundy, formerly of Carthage Indiana, now in Cleveland, author of Collec tive Bargaining, published by The National Foreman's Institute in New York. A series of twenty conferences on Industrial Relations has also appeared this year. Bundy is Industrial Coordinator with the Cleveland Board of Education.
The Indiana Farm Bureau approved a September 18 start for a cooperative tour. Led by Edmond C. Foust and supervised by Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Hinkle, the itinerary runs from the central northwest through the Canadian Rockies to Lake Louise, Vancouver, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boulder Dam, the Grand Canyon, and the Pan American Exposition in Dallas. The trip offers a cost saving versus individual travel.
Virgil M. Simmons reports six state parks Poc Kingdom Turkey Run Mounds Brown County McCormick Creek Clifty Falls now offer riding stables. The Brown County saddle barn is in use and provides quarters for equestrians with access to more than a hundred miles of bridle paths linking scenic spots and the adjacent game preserve.
John Titsworth of San Francis co visited Mrs. Anna J. Sipe last week in a social call. The event reflects local etiquette and neighborhood ties in the community.
Miss Virginia McBride representing Sohn & Son won the local personality contest at the Auditorium, judged after two elimination rounds from 22 entrants. The event, held by Carthage Service Club with Mr Troke of Ohio, drew about 250 spectators and raised 58.40 in receipts.
