A2c Robert Magee and his wife Ms Magee of Westover Field Mass visit their parents Mr and Mrs Robert Magee of Carthage and Mr and Mrs Jay Hamilton of R A 1. They plan to return to the east coast on Tuesday.
Lawrence Carter assisted at the funeral services for Will A. Will Cutt last Thursday. The omission appeared in the initial writeup and is corrected here.
The Daily Vacation Bible School met at the school building May 1 at 9 a m with 85 attending on opening day and 102 on Wednesday. All Sunday schools are cooperating and parents are urged to send their children.
The Dixon Dance Studio presents a revue at Maplewood High School Auditorium in Connersville from June 1 to 4 with local students Pam Hunt and Bettina Murray performing Friday and Saturday nights and Sue Keaton of Rushville also on the program. Proceeds benefit the local PTA.
Mr and Mrs James Terhune attended Vernon High School Alumni Association's 75th anniversary with over 400 in attendance. Mrs Terhune, class of 1891, earned a prize as the oldest attendee. The 32 member class was the largest Vernon High has graduated. The Terhunes returned Sunday from a weekend visit in Vernon.
Mr and Mrs Noah Brooks and daughter Cindy attended services at South Street Methodist Church Greenfield. Rev James Thomas their nephew led the service and will graduate from Taylor University Upland Indiana this Saturday.
The Past Matrons of the 12th District held a carry-in luncheon at Spiceland Masonic Hall on Wednesday. Martha Kessler was installed as 12th District president for next year, with Carthage chapter members Martha Kesseler Hazel Alexander Rachel King Catherine Truitt and Laura Scott among attendees. Sixteen chapters represented with seventy five in attendance.
Mrs Anna H Phelps was admitted to Rush Memorial hospital Monday evening after several days of illness and is in serious condition. Mrs Gouldie Kyser fractured two bones in her leg after tripping on a washing machine tube Tuesday morning and was also hospitalized at Rush Memorial.
Mr and Mrs Fred Flick returned home after attending the National Convention of the Hemerocallis Society in Baton Rouge Louisiana. They toured New Orleans Satartia Mobile Brevard Oak Ridge and viewed Warm Springs Foundation Little White House.
Cecil L. Richmond Jr aged 19 of Carthage and Betty Jane Rhodes aged 19 of Henderson obtain marriage licenses. Curtis Wells 50 of Carthage and Elizabeth Emerick 48 of Shelbyville secure licenses. J 8 Miller 28 of Carthage and Marlene Graff 22 of Carthage also listed for licenses.
Rush County Supt. DeMunbrun sustained Trustee J J W Brown decision to close Raleigh High School after a 5 hour hearing. Testimony showed costs of reopening would exceed bonding limits, with transfer to nearby schools cited as cheaper. Residents argued for continued operation amid claims of adequate curriculum and past enrollment trends.
Roy Sweet driving a 1935 Plymouth lost control at the New York Central crossing on Knightstown road Wednesday afternoon. The car overturned several times and was demolished after tearing down a cement abutment at the Carthage Waterworks entrance. Sweet escaped with minor scratches and bruises. Marshal Prowbridge investigated.
Arthur Wolf of Indianapolis and Coral Gables with his sister Mrs Stella Wolf Rigdon of Fort Lauderdale Florida visited Carthage friends Wednesday afternoon. They are children of Mr and Mrs Jacob Wolf formerly owners of the Carthage flour mill.
The new address for Pvt. Charles Roland is U. S. 55539620, Co. C 15th Medical Theater Battalion, 6th Armored Division, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
Mr and Mrs David Magee sold their property on South Main Street to Jess Howard in a private transaction. The sale details indicate a transfer of real estate from the Magees to Howard, completing a property transfer on the local market.
Mrs Ruth Bever hosted the Christian Helpers Sunshine Circle with 20 members and two guests Mrs Maxine Riggs and her daughter Dixie. Devo by Mrs Chloa Ewing and two readings by Mrs Lottie McManus followed by contests and dainty refreshments prepared by co hosts. Mr and Mrs Bayard Baker visited Anderson and Pendleton Tuesday while Mr and Mrs Marlin Branson of Indianapolis were in Carthage Saturday.
Miss Marlene Graff married J S Miller in a May 28 ceremony at East St Christian church Carthage. The couple will reside in Knightstown and both are Carthage High School alumni with military and civilian careers at Fort Benjamin Harrison and Delco Remy.
More than 200 attendees and guests fill the Elks Club ballroom for Lions Zone 1 Region 3. Rushville leader Kenneth McCully presides as toastmaster. Carthage Lions Club contributes about thirty. Dr. Jackson Rainey, Indiana School for the Deaf superintendent, speaks on American progress and five stakes for the future.
Ertle Price president of the Rush County Agricultural Association urged all Fair Board members to attend the meeting next Wednesday at 8 15 p m in the County Extension Office. He noted there is only one other scheduled meeting before the County Fair and sought 100 percent attendance. Department superintendents should present progress reports to coordinate the full fair program.
Marlin L Sandefur visits his parents Mr and Mrs Fimer Sandefur for a 30 day furlough. He flew to the States from Greenland and will be stationed at Hunter Air Force Base Savannah Georgia.
Harry H. Musgrove 56 was found dead in the bathroom by his wife Mrs. Musgrove at their home near Carthage. A railroad man formerly with New York Central who fell ill last year he was born September 12 1898 in Indianapolis. Survivors include his wife his mother May Musgrove two sons Jack Indianapolis and Harry E Tucson a daughter Mrs. George Hatch a brother Howard Indianapolis and sister Mrs. Raymond Lewis Indianapolis. Funeral services Friday at 10am at Flanner Buchanan Mortuary Indianapolis with interment Crown Hill Cemetery.
Mr and Mrs John S Green of Rushville welcomed a son born Thursday. Mrs Green is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Allen Blacklidge of Rushville. Mr and Mrs Harry White of Knightstown welcomed a daughter born Monday. Mrs White is the daughter of Mrs Jane Kinder of Carthage. Mr and Mrs Fred Mann of R R 5 welcomed a daughter born Sunday, granddaughter of Mr and Mrs Warnie Mann and Mr and Mrs Charles Moore.
A pitch in dinner honored Mr. and Mrs. E. T. McDonald at the Barbour home with guests including the Rubys, Donald Ruby, Thomas Bush, and Walter Chonan. E L B O W members met with Mrs. Florence Porter and Mrs. Iva Cook in charge due to absent officers. Thirteen members attended and the group adjourned for summer. Birthday supper celebrated James Carroll's fifth birthday at Knights Town Sunset Park with about eighteen relatives. Nancy Ann Long, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd D. Long, was baptized by Rev. Edwin L. Gates at LaPorte Indiana with John K. Gates and Mrs. Fern Miller as witnesses. A Gates dinner followed.
Carthage Legion Auxiliary plans a Monday night gathering at the Community Center. Babs Osborn and Norma McKain will be hostesses and officers for next year will be nominated. A large attendance is hoped.
Mr and Mrs Wayne Osborn and family were Sunday dinner guests of Mr and Mrs Robert Hunter and family at Seymour. The social visit highlighted friendly ties within the Seymour community.
Kraft Foods Company paid 456 dollars to Indiana Conservation Department after a contractor polluted Six Mile Creek near Shirley Hancock County by pumping milk residues from an excavation into a storm sewer. The company, which has long partnered with the state on whey disposal, agreed to restock with 5000 catfish and 500 smallmouth bass and to cooperate on preventing future fish losses.
A front tire blowout on a Spencer Street road four miles north of Rushville at 7 15 p m Monday caused a pickup crash into a fence and REMC pole. Robert M Stoner 23 Carthage and two passengers Mrs Merle Grocox 36 and Jeffrey Lynn Grocox Carthage were taken to Rush Memorial Hospital with head lacerations leg fracture and minor scratches. Mrs Grocox remained overnight for observation and was discharged Wednesday afternoon.
Howard Earl Henley of ITI visits his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Howard E. Henley while his parents stay with Dr. and Mrs. Max Haas in Massillon Ohio. Mrs. Levi Weaver of Knights town and Mrs. Grace Jessup with Mr. and Mrs. William Cook and children of Rushville visit Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Hill.
Roy Herkless claimed a $1 prize after posting a 212 in bowling last week, the highest score ever recorded in Carthage. A $2 prize is offered this week by VIM and VENTURE.
