Mr. and Mrs. Odell Pitts spent Sunday through Wednesday in Sedalia Missouri where Mr. Pitts attended the annual sales meeting of Interstate Studios and they conducted related business during the trip.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Edwards and family arrived home Wednesday night after a five day vacation in East Chicago spent with her sister Mrs Vernice Macak and daughter. They visited various attractions in and around Chicago.
The Rev R H Wood of New Palestine will again be the guest speaker at East Street Christian Church on August 2 and August 9 for morning worship. His message on July 26, Forgotten Dreams, was well received by attendees.
Mr and Mrs Foster Wilson and son and Mr and Mrs Roscoe Wilson of Carthage attended the funeral Wednesday afternoon for Charles Bentley of Madison. The service was held at 2 p.m. at the Gans Funeral Home in Madison.
Houseguests of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Winfield were their daughters Mrs. J Spencer Lloyd of Austin Texas and Mrs. Fred I Doebber and son Jon of Rochester New York. They left for their homes last Friday after enjoying a dinner party at the Durbin Hotel during their weeklong stay.
Sgt. Larry J. Marsh, son of Mr. and Mrs. Caleb Marsh of Carthage, arrived from San Francisco after a year in Korea. After a 30 day furlough, he will be stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado.
Rex Edwards and son Jeff, Norman Edwards, Carl Edwards, Paul Edwards and sons Jimmy and Danny, all of Carthage, plus Larry Ruble of Rushville attended Sunday’s Cincinnati doubleheader between the Reds and Pirates.

Miss Cynthia Wicker daughter of Mrs Louise Wicker Arlington was chosen from 44 contestants to reign during the county fair at Memorial Gym. The Arlington High School senior will preside over next week’s fair as a large crowd watched the coronation.
Mr and Mrs Charles May and Mr and Mrs Dale May with sons attended the Orange High School reunion Sunday at Orange. They visited Albert R May and Paul May near Raleigh and were supper guests of Albert May and Paul May.
Carthage School will close this Friday July 31 1964 for building painting. School officials say the shutdown is limited to administrative offices and will not affect classes.
Rush County Soil and Water Conservation District seeks more information before applying for Big Flat Rock River watershed development. State SCS leaders Layden and Gillman visited July 20 to assess potential, with plans for detention dams as first flood-control option and possible stream improvements if needed.
Lt. Governor Richard O. Ristine charged the Welsh administration of spending and inaction as he spoke to Indiana Republicans at the Claypool Hotel. He said the governor handpicked Democrats for state offices and warned voters to reject four more years of what he termed big spending and stagnation.
Impressive initiation held for eleven new members of Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority at the Durbin Hotel in Rushville. A dinner for 31 attendees featured name cards and colorful favors. New members Reta Stanley Cynthia Brooks Cynthia Pearson Patricia Sipes Marilyn Pitts Linda Miller Karen Petry Carol Ellis. Mrs Thomas Gorman Jr. Mrs Duard McDaniel and Mrs Phil Parish initiated by Mrs Hugh Weber with help from Miss Judy Kennedy and others. After a brief meeting, three skits were presented. Hostesses were Mrs Frank Hampton and Mrs Gale Barry.
Donald Hedrick of Arlington High School has accepted the job of superintendent for the new South Putnam Community School in Putnam County. He and his family will move to Route 1, Fillmore, with his office to be in Greencastle. South Putnam serves Reelsville, Putnamville, Belle Union and four townships. Hedrick previously resigned from Arlington and had earlier left North Vernon to take the superintendent role.
Ninety six bands from across the state entered the Indiana State Fair Band Contest. Arlington High School and Carthage High School are among them. The event, announced by Rob ert Weedon, Director of Special Events, will have bands march before the State Fair grandstand on High School Band Day, September 2. The contest is a highlight of the 1964 Indiana State Fair, August 29 to September 9, noted for its national recognition and past appearances in the Orange Bowl Rose Bowl and Inaugural Parade.

Mrs. Catherine Ann Weaver 80 of the west side of Walnut Ridge Road died at 8 a.m. Saturday at Robert Long Hospital Indianapolis after a broken hip in May. Born Feb 9 1884 in Shelby County she was married to Charles Weaver in 1905. Surviving daughters Ethelyn Parish Mary Draper and Dorothy Mitchell, a brother Benjamin Manlief, a sister Mrs Grover Enos, three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral Monday at 2 p.m. Hampton Mortuary with Rev Frank Guyatt officiating. Burial East Hill Cemetery Arlington.
The Woman's Society of Christian Service will meet Wednesday August 5 at the church annex with hostesses Mary Zimmerman Virginia Whitfield and Nelle Newby.
Final Rush County valuation figures show a total of 48 million 272 thousand 800 dollars, up 516 thousand 361 from last year. State Board reductions mostly affected railroads and utilities while five townships report decreases. Rushville City and Township lead in gains with substantial increases.
Mrs Forrest Moore secretary of the Christian Women Fellowship District 10 attended the CWF Retreat at Indian Lake Northern Indiana last Wednesday and Thursday. Tuesday night she and Mrs Ward Nickles Indianapolis executive secretary of Indiana CWF were guests at the Orange Christian Church for their CWF meeting with Nickles staying overnight.
The Indiana State Fair announces an Aug 13 tryout for a Hoosier Talent program and advance ticket sales at local outlets. Night harness racing, a new lighting system, and top trotters will highlight racing events including Fox and Horseman Stakes. High school Band Day is set for Sept 2, with a Feeder Calf Show and Sale on Sept 3. Entries for calves must meet weight and breed requirements, with registrations due Aug 3.
Indianapolis announces the sixth annual WFBM Antique Auto Tour September 26 and 27. Over 150 antique vehicles travel from Indianapolis to Shelbyville Rushville Connersville Cambridge City then to Rich mond and back, with 175 vehicles including service and celebrity cars. WFBM plans routes after consulting civic officials.
Elizabeth Rainey age 86 died Wednesday at Lincoln Manor Nursing Home Connersville after a stroke. Survived by four daughters grandchildren and great grandchildren. Daughter Mae Moore of Carthage. Services Saturday at 1 p.m. Myers Funeral Home Connersville with burial East Hill Cemetery Rushville.

Verna and Roy Stevens visited their sister and brother-in-law the Robert Everman Jr. family at Greenwood last weekend. They drove to Brown County State Park for a day of swimming and picnicking on Saturday.
State Bank of Carthage purchased the Newsom building on North Main Street, previously housing the J and E Restaurant and The Carthage Citizen, with plans for expansion not yet announced. A detailed itinerary of Boy Scout Troop 23 Operation Yankee Doodle trip. The group traveled from Rushville to Pittsburgh then Gettysburg Washington Annapolis Bainbridge Valley Forge Philadelphia New York and Philadelphia again before returning to Rushville. They toured landmarks, rode an inclined railway, viewed a battlefield reenactment, visited the Capitol and White House, saw the Tomb of the Unknowns and the JFK gravesite, and spent a day at the National Jamboree and World’s Fair.

Bayard Baker hosted houseguests Stella Griffin and Irene Stewart of Stuttgart Arkansas for the weekend. Lowell Bramel returned to Waynesboro Pennsylvania after a week here with family. Gail Manlove Rushville and Harry Liebrandt Greenfield were Sunday guests of Bob Nigh family.
