Carl Hogle and Lee Silver of Carthage Grain Co open the Dunreith elevator and plan to operate through the summer. The facility began receiving combined wheat Tuesday with reports showing a good test of the grain.
Girl Scouts conducted investiture and candlelight services Monday at the Christian church with the Charlottes ville troop taking part in a musical program. Rev. Samuel M. Riggle delivered an engaging talk to the young people.
W Manche remains ill though steady. Mrs. Ross Parish shows slow progress after recent surgery. L L Braybrook and children of Sycamore New York visit Mrs. Braybrook’s parents Clyde and Mrs. Henley. Mr Braybrook and the children will return to New York. Mrs Braybrook will stay awhile.
The Carthage Raiders face Shell Service of Rushville on Sunday afternoon at the local diamond. Friday night features a league game at Rushville with Raiders ace Bob White scheduled to pitch and Windsor or Porter catching.
Mrs Leona Belle Ball wife of Byron Ball died suddenly Monday at 12 10 at her home after a period of failing health a heart ailment being the cause She was born Carthage July 5 1877 daughter of William and Mary Bundy a Friends church member She married Byron Ball September 29 1898 Survivors include husband daughter Mrs Lorena Wilson of Elkhart and brother Edgar Bundy of Portland Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 pm at the Friends church Rev Homer Biddlecum presiding Choral Club sang Burial was in Friends cemetery Pallbearers were H T Beher Howard Winslow Ray Gurley Roll Risk Walter Phelps and Harry O Pitts
Carthage Lions Club and wives plan an outing at Riley park Greenfield on Wednesday July 12. Guests include local cub scouts. bring food and table service. ice cream provided. Park facilities include swimming swings and slides for children. social visiting expected.
The Fidelity class picnic has been postponed one week and will be held Wednesday July 19 at Pittsford. The event was originally planned for July 12.
Joel Ridlen a local grocer returned home Tuesday after a major operation at Methodist Hospital Indianapolis He is reported to be improving the update notes his condition showing progress at home

Omer Ruggles of Indianapolis stayed with his mother Mrs Mary L Ruggles while Mrs Henry Campbell left for Antigo Wisconsin for her ill father J H Rose. Lon Thomas age 83 had funeral services at home with burial in Knightstown.
The quarterly meeting took place at Blue River church over Saturday and Sunday with Rev. Iva Norman of Kennard delivering the message.
Members of the Cub Scouts enjoyed a swimming party at the Carr pool with a picnic to follow.

Richard Eugene Morgan of Carthage Indiana commissioned as second lieutenant and earned silver pilot wings at Freeman Field ceremonies. Morgan is son of Mr and Mrs John Monroe Morgan of R A 2. Sgt William H Beck listed at 267th AAF Base Unit Woodward Oklahoma. Sgt Marcus Pingleton of Ft Leonard Wood Missouri visiting here. Sgt Eugene Herkless in France, letter states. Ensign R A Winslow reports a change of address and thanks for the Citizen.
A farm magazine survey finds Illinois and Indiana feeders will fatten 12 444 head this year, down from 18 361, about 67.7 percent of the normal yearly total. Respondents cite pasture, protein feed and labor as key constraints and oppose government price floors and ceilings on feeders and cattle.
Joan Fletcher underwent a minor operation Monday at Major Hospital in Shelbyville. The procedure was described as routine with no complications reported. Local officials did not release additional details about the case.

Flight Officer Richardtanley Myers 34 of Arlington was killed in action over France on June 6 as reported by the War Department. A glider pilot in service since 1941 and overseas since last March, he trained at U.S. flying fields before leaving. Born August 23 1909 he was the son of Otis and Mrs. Myers. He is survived by his wife Mrs Mary Stout Myers two brothers Arnold of Rushville Percy of Indianapolis and a sister Mrs Lawrence Davis of Rushville.
The survey reports U S housewives earned thirty-one percent of all fruit and vegetable jars used in 1943. It notes wide involvement in canning and home food preservation during wartime shortages.

About three and a half million small businessmen at a Chicago convention urged corporate tax reform. They favored single taxation on corporate profits with dividends exempted, and a 10 percent top rate on the first $25,000 of corporate income to spur expansion and employment. Re employment of veterans was pledged to aid small firms freed from restraining rules.

James Collins, a local shoe repair businessman, bought the building housing his shop from Mrs. Henrietta Watts of Knightstown. He will continue to operate the shoe shop there while Mrs. Collins runs the cream station in another section of the same building.
William Frost has purchased the restaurant from Mr. and Mrs. Joe Stephens. The deal closed last week and the establishment is now open. Frost previously owned the restaurant about a year ago and is welcomed back by the community.
Miss Shirley Ann Nelson and Patty Alexander underwent tonsil removal operations Wednesday morning at City Hospital in Rushville.
