Mrs Eunice Wallin of Pomeroy Kansas City Kansas tends two and a half month old German police dog pup and a three month old prairie wolf. Frank Digman reports pencil marks on a beach pole at Cape May New Jersey, written June 28 1879 and discovered while tearing down a beach bath house tower. He notes forty five years of rain sun and wind have scarcely faded the writing.

Jugge Will Med en tends Sparks delivered the main address on farming as business, with 4 H girls and corn club work highlighted. Officers were elected for the coming year including President H G Conaway and Secretary Mrs Luther Gibson.
The majority of residents rose early to view the sun eclipse with smoked glasses. As the moon moved between Earth and Sun, long banded shadows appeared on streets and buildings and the light dimmed to a gray sky.
Carthage announces Dollar Day on Saturday January 31 with many business houses offering $1 cash value deals in merchandise or services. Residents and visitors are urged to consider the bargains as part of the event.
Owen S Hill in Knightstown continues to improve on Thursday. Ed Buscher shows improvement since Monday. Mrs John DeSchipper at St Vincent’s hospital in Indianapolis is somewhat improved from the start of the week.
The State Bank of Carthage, founded in 1876 as the Bank of Carthage, will move to a new building on the original site. The long history notes early directors and officers, a 1922 conversion to a state bank, and a 1924 construction start with a 1925 deposit total of 270 000 and resources over 400 000.
The State Bank of Carthage will open its doors Saturday January 31 from 2 PM to 10 PM in the new structure on the original site. Residents are invited to inspect as officers and directors explain features and offer a complete tour of the latest building design.
The bank in Carthage showcases a brick and Bedford stone exterior with a detailed interior. It includes bronze doors, copper fixtures, a spacious lobby, private offices, a ladies room, director’s room, burglar proof vault, sub vault, and safety deposit area. Estimated cost around $25,000 with work by Shelby Construction and Diebold among others.

Mrs S L Newsom moderated as the W L C met Monday afternoon. The debate argued that the County Unit solves the Indiana School Problem with the affirmative led by Mrs H E Stager and Mrs M S Kyser. Judges from Terre Haute Rushville and Henley ruled for the affirmative. A number of guests attended.
Two fox drives are planned. The first will start at 110 a m Saturday with lines stretching from National road to Blue River and to the Charlottes ville Walnut Ridge pike, centered on the James Lindamood farm near Westland church. A second drive is planned for February 7 near Arkington.
Howard E. Henley and family hosted a Sunday gathering with extended kin. Attendees included Mr and Mrs William P. Henley and Miss Lillian Henley, and Robert Henley and family from Hartford City, along with Mr and Mrs Henry Henley from Terre Haute.
