The country home of Mr and Mrs Alva Swain south-west of Arlington was destroyed by fire at noon Tuesday. The Swains had been with his mother and planned to return home that day. Fire started after he lit the fires and possible gas was left burning. Loss estimated at $3,000, only partially insured.

Miss Mormon of Rushville teaches at Shiveley's Corner and visits Mrs. Darwin Herkless. Miss Fanny Draper of Carthage stays with Mrs. Charles Foust. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Davis of Knightstown entertained by the Fousts. Isham Fry returns from Willow Branch with his son Noah. Claude Rhodes suffers severe tonsillitis. W. E. Alexander ill with rheumatism while wife recovers from grippe. Jacob Ruby reported better. Knights Town fox hunt ends near Morristown. Mrs Jesse Newsom hosts A OT with light refreshments. J O Nelson rents Holt room for a carload of buggies. Sparker trouble at the light plant leaves town in darkness 6 to 9pm.
Mr and Mrs George M Kullmer will move from Canton Illinois to Macomb Illinois about twenty miles away where he has accepted the position of manager and buyer for J W Wayne and Bro dry goods merchants. He has been chief assistant at B F Eyerly and Son and recently resigned. The article also praises Mrs Kullmers piano ability and mentions Miss Helen Gause visiting. A C Jones was in Indianapolis Monday.
Rev. Jared P. Binford slowly recovers from a severe attack of La Grippe. Jessie Pearson Miriam Jessup were in Knights town Friday. Cliff Addison moved to their farm last week. Harry Hudson of Greenfield visited Rev. Binford and wife. John Jessup and family visited Charles Pearson at Westland Saturday. Mrs Faughn Addison Edith Hunt Jessie Pearson were in Indianapolis Tuesday.
Theodore Tilton visited Carthage on February 9 1883 and lectured in Union Hall. The talk urged a better town hall and railroad, with local details about the hall, hotel, and attendance, ending with hope for Carthage’s World’s Tomorrow. The piece also notes the Carthage Citizen plant move to North Main street and new facilities.
Walter S. Walker traveled to Shelbyville on Saturday to visit his cousin Ol Walker who had been ill since September. A goiter grew on the neck and cancer developed. despite seeming better earlier, the relative died that night and the visitor stayed for the funeral before returning home.

Miss Zella Bundy of near Greenfield attended the spelling contest Friday night. The Big Four has put in a private crossing just south of the station for the benefit of Mrs F S Hill whose land adjoins the Co s right of way.
