Mrs Albert Ray underwent major surgery at Henry County Hospital on Monday after admission Sunday. John Jordan of Carthage also had major surgery at Rush Memorial Hospital Monday. Mrs Jesse Pitts and Ruth Davis recover and visit home. Mrs Robert Jackson returns from Henry County Hospital. Mrs Fred McManus improves at Robert Long Hospital. Miss Lon McCorkle and Lesley enter Henry County and Hillside Haven Nursing Home in Rushville.

Funeral for Mrs Clara Bart Held in French Lick

Mrs Harold Dixon attended the funeral of her aunt Mrs Clara Bart in French Lick Indiana on Friday. Due to heavy snow she remained the weekend with Mr and Mrs F A Jackson and family in Indianapolis.

Snow Blamed in Carthage Area Vehicle Crash

Obscured vision from high snow piles caused a collision south of Carthage on Wednesday morning. A pickup driven by Robert Stout from Arlington backed from a farm driveway and hit a car driven by Caleb Marsh of Carthage.

Wreck Damages Local Cars In Snowbound Collision

A two car head on crash on Charlottesville road injures Everett Webb with a leg cut. Ronnie Fannin and Jack Tipton collide while driving from Carthage, one lane blocked by heavy snow near the George Roland home. Fannin was in Mrs. Ralph McClurg’s car with Russell Siler and Everett Webb aboard. Tipton travels north to Knightstown. both vehicles sustain extensive damage.

Bridal Shower Honors Mrs Charles E Miller at Carthage Church

A Tuesday night bridal shower at Carthage East St. Christian Church honored Mrs. Charles E Miller the former Kay Patterson. About forty guests attended at 7 30 p.m. with yellow and white decorations. Door prize went to Mrs Hugh Trowbridge and other prizes to Mrs Eldon Plank and Mrs Odell Pitts. Hostesses included Mrs Jack Maple Mrs Nick Colter Mrs Fred Sandefur Mrs Robert McCorkle Miss Bonnie Fannin and Mrs Herb Fannin all of Carthage. Light refreshments followed.

State Bank of Carthage Marks 40th Anniversary in Today’s Building

The State Bank of Carthage prepares to celebrate 40 years in its current South Main Street building. Opened January 31, 1925, the 1924 structure cost about $25 000 and has since grown from a local private bank to a state bank with deposits exceeding $2 million by 1964.

Rush County basketball tournament resumes after a one week snow delay with semifinals and finals set for Saturday. New Salem favored over Milroy while Carthage meets Mays in the 1:15 p.m. semifinal. Miss Bonita Gatewood bride elect of Joseph Michael Bradman was guest of honor at a personal shower hosted by Mrs. William Windsor. Senior class girls from Carthage High School attended and played bride bingo with prizes to Sally Bush Jeanie Stapp Arlene Ruby Julie Ewing Judy Marsh Patty McCorkle and Jennie Eoff. Peggy Addison won the door prize. Pink and green were the color theme for favors and refreshments.

Services Held for Clara Hopkins at Sterling Funeral Home

Clara Hopkins age 83 died Sunday at Pleasant Acres Nursing Home Mt. Comfort where she lived since last June. Her home was Acton Indiana. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 10 30 a m at Sterling Funeral Home. Survived by two sons Albert Hopkins Knights Town owner of Carthage Hardware and Charles Hopkins Indianapolis four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Burial was at Acton.

Carthage native Herbert White dies in California

Herbert White, longtime coach and athletic head at Los Angeles High School, died January 11 in Placerville California after a series of strokes. A Carthage High School and Earlham College graduate and brother of the late Franklin E. White, he leaves a wife Hazel a son a daughter and six grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Friends Church in Pasadena.

Snow Storm Paralyzes Indiana Towns and Roads

A severe snow storm swept into Indiana last Friday cutting travel to a crawl. Rush County saw over 12 inches with drifts up to eight feet, crippling Carthage and Blue River valley and delaying mail for days. Roadways including Westland Charlottesville Walnut Ridge remained impassable at times, two minor wrecks occurred, protests and rescues continued, and temperatures dipped to zero or below.

Mays Carthage Banks Name New Directors and Officers

The First National Bank of Mays and the State Bank of Carthage renamed their directors and personnel at their annual meeting held Tuesday. Kenneth L. Earnest was re elected president of both banks.
