Deputy county auditor Fern Jordan reports Rush County ended 1935 with total funds of 90 076 68 up from 50 249 42 the previous year. The general fund rose from 29 167 40 to 70 543 48, with other funds listing various balances including school funds, fines, gravel road bonds, and poor relief accounts.

Greenfield Man Killed When Blinded by Lights
Harley Hobson Andis of Greenfield, 37, died after losing control of a borrowed car on the National road west of Cumberland. The vehicle struck a utility pole and rolled over when blinded by an approaching car’s headlights. Kenneth Martin, 30, also of Greenfield, was injured. Andis died before aid arrived. Survived by Clinton and An dis parents, a son Ricard, and three brothers and three sisters.

New 1936 hunting fishing and trapping licenses are on sale at Sharer and Moore hardware. The 1935 license is invalid regardless of purchase time. Licenses cost $1 each. A total of 1,522 licenses were sold in Rush County in 1935, the largest number on record. Proceeds go to the state.

Black Bear Pool Room Raid Nets Seven Gambling Charges
The Black Bear pool room in Parish was raided Thursday afternoon by Town Marshal Herbert McCorkhill. Seven men Albert Ray Clarence Henley John Hinshaw Eugene Herkless Oren Miller Cecil Deweese and Maurice Brooks were charged with playing rummy for money. They were fined five dollars and costs after a brief court proceeding before Judge Stech and released. The arrests marked Rush county’s first gambling action in years.
