The Ball home near Arlington faced a Christmas morning fire caused by an overheated furnace pipe. Firefighters battled dense smoke as a poplar bedroom floor, rugs, and a writing desk suffered damage. Total losses estimated around 250 dollars.
Fred F. Brenan owner of the local electric light plant for fourteen years has sold his interests to Central Indiana Power Co and will start a canning business at Middletown. He bought a site along the Pennsylvania railroad and will build a new factory to can tomatoes and tomato pulp. The Brenan family will stay until spring then move to Middletown.
May King daughter of Frank J. King and Mrs King married Howard W. Brown son of Charles Brown near Homer in Shelbyville on Saturday. Mrs Brown was a bookkeeper for Daun Dairies Co. in Connersville last year and Brown works on a farm. They will live with Brown’s parents this winter.
A meeting of the stockholders of the State Bank of Carthage in Carthage Indiana will be held at the Banking House on Tuesday January 13 1925 to elect five directors for the ensuing year. Howard D E Henley cashier.
The Ripley Town ship Community Institute date moved from Jan 23-24 to Jan 22-23 in Carthage. Speakers include Maurice Lafuse of Liberty and Mrs Bertha L Ratcliffe of New Castle. Topics cover Boys and Girls Clubs, farm themes, and the farmer as a business person with sessions at 9 30 am and 1 15 pm.
Last Thursday marked the coldest Christmas day in 48 years as temperatures dropped to 4 degrees below zero, rose to 10 above by 3 p.m., and returned to zero at night. Friday opened at zero, two sleighs were seen Saturday, and Sunday morning reported 18 to 18 below. By Tuesday a slight thaw began and Wednesday temperatures neared 18 with similar readings at Thursday noon.

An Iowa farmer documented two years of farm accounts under extension supervision, finding higher returns after restructuring fields and land use. He swapped scrub cows for higher dairy producers and increased land per worker, boosting annual income by over 350 dollars after expenses.
