Victoria L. White widow of Will L. White died Wednesday morning at her son Russell's home near Noblesville. The Whites and the family were longtime Carthage residents.
Miss Darlene Magee underwent an operation for appendicitis last week at Henry County Hospital in New Castle. She is recovering at her parents Mr and Mrs Maine Magee home.
Miss Carrie Charles suffered a heart attack Monday night at the home of Mrs. Rena Hill. She remains in a serious condition.
County records show twenty one births and twenty deaths for January with scarlet fever affecting five people. Notable births include Carolyn Ollie Hawkins and Rigney Reed Ostering in the county and Carole Ann Bentler Rebecca Ann Moore Marilyn Shirley Strimple Lawrence Edward Newby James Joseph Artmeier Robert Dale Dickson Ann Louise Scott James Myron Marine David Logan Scott David Monroe Morgan Daniel William Copple Harold Ray Newbold James Stephen Linville George Philip Leisure Nancy Ann Shanahan Charles Russell Safewright Jr. and Patricia Diane Collins in Rushville.
Indiana state parks gain importance as summer recreation centers for Hoosiers and war industry workers. Attendance is expected to rise at Turkey Run near the Wa bash Valley Ordnance Plant and Brown County near Camp Atterbury. Kingsbury workers may boost Dunes park while Springs Mill benefits from the Martin ammunition Depot. Clifty Falls continues to attract workers from the Proving Grounds and Charlestown.

The World Day of Prayer service was held Friday at East Street Christian church at two o clock with seven leaders from local churches guiding the event. Readers included Mrs Josse Newsom Mrs Katherine Kennedy and others while the four International Projects were presented by four community members. Music by the Choral club featured a solo by Mrs Dhonau and piano by Mrs Carr. The offering of $6.25 will support Christian Service activities.
Ripley township 4 H club met at the school house with Cedric Power and Alfred Gesell in charge. Twenty two members attended as Philip Winslow was elected president and Robert Nigh vice president. Committees named include Program chaired by Nigh and members Manche White Stoten.
Mr and Mrs Cecil Pike and family moved Monday from near Shirley to the Fred Allen farm north of Carthage. Mrs Katherine V Kennedy will move next week from the Alexander property at Market and First to the Carl Norris property on Second Street. Mrs May McDaniel moved this week from the country to the Miss Abby M Clark rooms on N Market Street.
Carthage Blue Raiders lost 29 26 to Charlottesville Eagles in a late decision on the Eagles court. Spacey led Carthage with 13 points while Charlottesville center Hill paced his team with 12 points.
Mrs Henrietta Taylor fractured her hip after a fall at home Tuesday. Her daughter Mrs Carl Norris was called to Pendleton Tuesday evening due to the serious illness of Mrs Taylor.
Fletcher Methodist Church celebrated Laymen's Sunday during the worship service with J. A. Lineback in charge. Assistants included Raymond Manche, Henry L. Stenger, Hubert Hunt and Bayard Baker.
Willard Andis of near Morristown had an appendectomy at Major hospital in Shelbyville on Tuesday and is reported to be improving nicely. He is a brother to Mrs. Oscar Alexander.
Mrs. Ruby Gray Whitaker aged 60 died Saturday night from asthma and complications. She lived most of her life in the area, was born December 14, 1881 in Hancock county, and married Arvey Whitaker in 1902. Surviving are three sons Lloyd Loren and Truman, one grandson Jackie, two sisters, and other relatives. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 pm at the Walnut Ridge Friends church with burial in Asbury cemetery Morristown.
The annual high school oratorical contest directed by Mr. Bayard Baker proceeds as students memorize speeches. No county contest this year, delaying award date until medals arrive. Competitors include Lois Ruth White, Lois Marie Henderson, Rosalind Stewart, Jo Ann Laird, Philip Winslow, Charles Hoover, Donald Staten Jr., and Gene Tuttle.
Joyce Carson daughter of Mr and Mrs Carl Carson was discharged Friday to her home from Riley Hospital Indianapolis where she recently underwent an appendectomy and is reported to be getting along nicely.
