William Penn Henley Dies in Miami at 99
William Penn Henley, longtime Carthage resident and Bank of Carthage founder stockholder, died Sunday morning in Miami Florida. Born August 11 1846 he helped run a Carthage general store and later served Earlham College’s financial boards and college endowment funds. He married Id Steere and survived by five children and ten grandchildren. Funeral services were held in Miami with burial planned for Carthage in May. He was a lifelong Quaker and Elder in Carthage Friends Church.

Westland shot well on their floor crushing Carthage 32 to 8 as Westland raced to an 18 to 2 lead after one period. Westland used a wide lineup with Poer Arnold Davis Clayton Walls Darling Hardin and others while Carthage struggled with poor shooting and turnovers.

The Ripley Country Club met last Thursday with Mrs. Earl Sears as hostess. Sixteen members and three guests attended including Mrs. Charles Fisher of Rushville who spoke on Universal membership. Papers on Carrie Chapman Catt and Ten Years of Woman Suffrage were read. Refreshments followed Washington’s birthday decor. The next meeting is planned for March at Mrs. Robert Stanley’s home.

Former Carthage Man Greenbury Watkins Dies in Anderson
Greenbury Watkins an aged colored man and former resident died Tuesday in Anderson from injuries suffered in an automobile accident weeks earlier. Funeral services were held Thursday in Anderson and the body was moved to Knightstown Chapel for short rites at 2:30 with burial in Knightstown Cemetery. He is survived by a daughter Mrs Black near Charlottesville and a son John Watkins of Richmond, plus several grandchildren. His wife preceded him in death several years ago.

Death of Aged Resident William Moore
William Moore aged 83 died Monday at his home after several months illness senility listed as cause. Born in Virginia September 4, 1848 he came with his parents as a boy. He married Margaret Ellen Miller who died in 1902. thirteen children were born, twelve surviving: Bertha Pollitt Sanford Andy Mary Collins Rushville Jane Nigh James Moore Arlington Abe Anderson Isaac Wilkinson Chas Morristown Garland Greenfield Sam Spiceland Ira Knightstown. In 1904 he married Letha Lowery of Knightstown. One daughter Ruth Ellen McNicholl survives with the widow. Surviving brothers are Joseph Washington Indiana Samuel Arlington Andrew Rushville. He belonged to the M E church. Funeral 2:00 Wednesday at Arlington Methodist church with Rev. W S Rader in charge. Burial Arlington cemetery.

Winslow dies suddenly in Terre Haute
William Winslow died early Tuesday morning in Terre Haute from pneumonia. Born August 12, 1889 near Carthage, he married Margaret Stuart on December 31, 1923 and had three children. Survived by widow, parents, a brother Rufus, and half sister Mrs Frank Iddings. Funeral Friday at two at the residence, burial in Terre Haute cemetery.

Friends Missionary Meeting at Carthage Church
The Friends Missionary Society of Carthage held its annual guest meeting at the church on Wednesday evening February 21. The program included a Sabbath school orchestra, a missionary playlet Count Your Blessings, and a talk by Hon. Leonidas P. Newby of Knightstown on The Man of Galilee. The Mite Boxes raised about 70 dollars, ten new members were named, and the Reds won the attendance contest with 1470 points to 1225 for the Blues. Over two hundred attended and refreshments followed. Guests included Carl Taylor and Katie Hammond of Dayton, and Mr. and Mrs. Lindley Taylor of Dayton.
