Ruby's Corner Market will be closed all day Wednesday February 24 for remodeling and enlarging work. A formal reopening will be announced later with details in the Citizen.
The Christian Men Fellowship held its regular monthly dinner at Carthage Christian Church Tuesday evening with eighteen members present. President Robert McKain led the meeting as John Wagoner gave devotions. John Allen Ruby supplied an engaging program with a narration and photos from his recent trip to Spain.
Mrs Hazel Alexander Mrs Rachel King Mrs Bertha Rowan and Mrs Bina Jessup attended a Past Matrons 12th District Association luncheon Tuesday at the Coffee Pot near Richmond. The event honored Inez Stott Worthy Grand Matron of the Indiana Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star.
The Carthage Legion Auxiliary sponsors a women’s card party at the Community Center on Wednesday February 24 at 1 30 p m. The event invites all women to join and bring friends for bridge euchre or canasta.
After more than 25 years in groceries and feed, the Joel Ridlen business in Carthage is dissolved this week. Stock and fixtures were sold at auction Wednesday.

The hearing to transfer the Black Bear Tavern beer and wine permit in Carthage was postponed after applicants again failed to appear or submit a new incorporator list. State official Mark Carr said the hearing is reset for March 15 by the Indiana State Alcoholic Beverage Commission. A large Carthage audience attended at the Courthouse Assembly Room.
Marilyn Jackson a Ball State University sophomore and daughter of Leonard E. Jackson of Carthage is chairing the Christian Action and Community World Service committee for the Disciples Student Fellowship. She majors in elementary education at Ball State.
U S Forces Germany selects Army Pfc Jerry D Wrightsman 19 son of Mr and Mrs Leonard C Wrightsman Carthage Indiana to serve with the 4th Armored Division Honor Guard in Germany for precision drill and appearance He entered service December 1968 trained at Fort Hood deployed overseas in April 1959 and is a 1958 Carthage High School graduate.
Beginning next week mail from the Carthage Post Office will depart at 7 45 a m instead of the previous time. Evening deliveries and dispatch will stay unchanged.
Mr and Mrs Cecil Pike and Mr and Mrs Lee Silver hosted the Cam era Club monthly meeting at the Community Center. President Cecil Pike and Helen Nelson led the session while Howard Ewbank of Rushville presented color slides and narration of a California trip in October. Refreshments were served to twenty two guests.
Students report on a Feb 16 hearing at Rushville about a Black Bear Tavern license transfer. Protesters were told a continuance to March 15 was granted due to unformed corporation. The piece includes a plea to residents, especially men, to attend the next hearing and voice opposition.
Last week the children held a birthday party for Mrs. Alexander on February 9 and planned a Valentine party. Joseph Whitfield won an improvement award and brought mineral specimens for the science table. The class welcomed Cheryl Lacy and Linda Chance hosted a birthday party. Most students recovered from the flu and the group is studying puppets for a show with committees handling tasks. A surprise birthday for Mrs Ruby and thanks to Mrs Ruby for a Valentine gift are noted.
The fifth and sixth graders closed their season on February 15 with two victories over Spiceland. Carthage won 45 to 12 in the first game and 49 to 17 in the second. A Valentine party followed and gratitude was given to room mother Mrs. Flora Heim. Kathy Heim donated a bronze Lincoln statue.
Public Service Company of Indiana, Inc. mails its annual report to 38,500 shareholders showing 1959 net income of 16,367,223 or 2.72 per share on 4,856,499 shares, up slightly from 1958. Revenues rose 7.9 percent to 87,852,766 but taxes and other charges offset gains.
Mrs. Laura Sandefur attended a district Avon meeting in Indianapolis on a Wednesday afternoon to honor the 1959 Women of Achievement program held at the Murat Hotel.

The Rush County Extension Executive Committee met in the County Extension Office. Robert E. White was re elected chairman Clarence Dyer was elected vice chairman and Mrs Florence Linville was elected secretary. Members include Howard Earnest Walker Worth Hudson Earl Bacon A Walter Meyer Mrs Oakley Smith and Mrs Frances Thomas. Dates for meetings were set March 14 April 11 June 20 August 15 September 12 October 1 November 16 and December 29. Several members will attend the District County Extension Workers Conference at New Castle February 24 with a panel on how the Rush County Extension Committee plans and holds its annual meeting.
Hubert Hunt proprietor of Carthage Radio and Appliance Shop marks 25 years in business. He opened in Newsom building on East Mill Street 25 years ago after leaving Knightstown Furniture Store. The shop began February 25 1935 and has grown into a full appliance store with a service shop and modern equipment inviting friends to visit next week.
Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Earnest included Fern Thomas Fred Thomas and Earl Townsend from Anderson with couples Albert Hopkins of Knightstown and William Nelson. Hubert Hunt and Stan Lynch visited Rev. A V Faris in Carlisle Indiana. Roy Blessinger and Walter Blessinger with daughter Janice spent Sunday with Robert Blessinger family in Greenfield. Mrs Charles Blankenship and sons called on Mable Louder in Cureenfield and Carl Sandford of near Greenfield on Friday.
An Anderson man James M. Green, 50, was jailed on charges of reckless and drunken driving after a one car crash at the south limits of Carthage. Police say the 1950 model car struck a utility pole and a fence, with $175 and $150 damages respectively.
An overflow crowd at the Rush County Lincoln Day banquet at the Durbin Hotel in Rushville heard Lt. Gov. Parker as principal speaker. About 270 people attended as Parker urged Republican themes and cited Lincoln’s legacy, urging Nixon as the next president and backing local and district candidates.
The Rushville sectional opens Wednesday with Charlottesville facing Arlington and Morton meeting Carthage. Carthage Blue Raiders draw Morton in the second game and could collide with Charlottesville-Arlington winner Friday. Morristown and Milroy meet Thursday with Rushville facing New Salem Friday. Winners advance to Saturday semis and regional play. Tickets go on sale Monday at the schools.

Minutes were read and treasurer reported. members backed a four way stop at Mill and First with a blinking red light to be reviewed by the town board. A brochure on local businesses was discussed and Harold Hill reported on Rushville Black Bear Tavern hearings.
Mr and Mrs Fred Parish and Mr and Mrs Robert McKain attended the Indiana Michigan basketball game at Bloomington Monday.
Rev. Clifford Hoover conference vice-president will be guest speaker at Carthage Wesleyan Methodist Church during a weekend series. February 18 through Sunday services begin at 7 30 p.m. Public invited to attend. C C Fields pastor.
Morristown Yellow Jackets defeated the Blue Raiders 70 to 68 on their home court to share the East Central Conference lead at 4 and 1 with Morton. Mike Watkins led Morristown with 22 points, Doughty added 16, and Ronnie Sullivan 13 as Carthage Seconds also fell 60 to 45.
