Sammy Sears of Funk's Hybrid Seed Corn Co will lead the Carthage Adult Farmer Class discussion on General Corn Production at 7 30 p m Wednesday February 20 at the high school. The event is hosted for local farmers seeking crop guidance and practical insights.
Claude Henley, formerly of Carthage and Goshen and now resident at Warren Methodist Home, recently suffered a stroke. His wife also lives at the Home, and Mrs. Henley is sister to Mrs. Earl Addison of Carthage.
The February 11 gathering included eleven members and one guest. Susan Skinner chaired as president. Kenneth Shirk, church minister, delivered the lesson before adjournment for recreation and refreshments.
Fred Newkirk, chairman of the Bush ASC County Committee, announces Friday as the final date for initial ACP practice sign ups. Gary R. Siler of Carthage has been elected vice president of the Inter-Dorm Council and vice president of Platt Hall Fellowship at Tri-State College Angola Indiana. He studies Motor Transportation Administration and holds the Schneider Memorial Scholarship. He is a Tri-State and Carthage High School graduate and former Tri-Anglo reporter.
Mr Weldon Newlin has returned home from Henry County Hospital after recent surgery. Mrs Gace Gurley is convalescing at a Carthage home. Mrs David Ray remains about the same at her Carthage residence with complications. Mrs Joanna Gibson has been confined to her home for several weeks due to illness.
The Ripley Needletwisters held a February 4 1963 meeting in the Home Ec Room after school. President Jenny Eoff led the session with group singing by Linda Copple and pledges by Darlene Barry and Linda Sullivan. Health and Safety discussion on first aid kits was given by Wanda Henderson and Connie Leisure.
Junior class reveals plans for Publicity Mad a three act Ken Parker comedy to be staged March 29 with tryouts set for February 18. The feature star Marcille Benedict and notes on school conduct accompany a Lincoln Birthday lesson and weekly student meals schedule.
The Myers family home, located about half a mile north of Henderson, burned Wednesday night with an estimated loss of 10000 to the structure and 5000 to its contents. Firefighters from Jackson Township and Carthage battled the blaze, saving the barn east of the house. Mr. Myers and one child escaped in night clothes while Mrs. Myers and three young girls fled.
Army Pvt James A Blessinger completed eight weeks of advanced infantry training at Fort Gordon Georgia on February 2 He studied combat techniques and fired the M14 rifle and M60 machinegun The 23 year old entered the Army in September 1962 and finished basic training at Fort Gordon His wife Davie lives in Tampa Florida and his parents reside in Indiana.
Isabel Henley Wildman died January 31 in Manteno Illinois. A memorial service will be held at 2 30 PM Sunday February 17 at the home of Francis and Mrs Robinson 1808 Southwest E Street Richmond Indiana. Survived by daughter Carolyn W Green and three grandchildren Urbana II and sisters Mildred H Calvert Maumee Ohio and Eleanor H Robinson Richmond.
The Carthage Brotherhood Sisterhood will meet Monday February 18 1963 at the Carthage Community Center. A good attendance is desired. A number of new applications will be presented at this meeting.
The Rush County Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisors met with six supervisors and three SCS technicians. They reviewed the successful annual meeting despite bad weather, discussed Soil Stewardship Week for May 19 25 1963, and planned church bulletin inserts. An overhaul of the district motor grader and a February 19 public program at the Carthage Community Building were announced to discuss the Upper Big Blue River Project and a proposed Wabash Valley Association Chapter to promote regional water resources. New cooperators were named Levis A. Martin Walker Two and others with January activity showing strong sign ups for 1963 cost sharing practices.
Verle E. Endicott aged 52 of Morristown was killed last Thursday night in a two car collision at a road junction southeast of Indianapolis. Forest K. Webb age 18 of Indianapolis was critically injured after witnesses said he failed to stop at a stop sign. The impact sent both vehicles across a lawn, snapped a utility pole and brought down several power lines.
Carthage Raiders dominated visiting Alquina 81 59 with three players Jordan Porter and Weidner scoring 68 points. Seconds also lost to Alquina Seconds 37 36 in a late thriller.

Visitors during the week last week of Mr. and Mrs. Logan Nelson included Mrs. Margaret Hopkins of Knightstown Mr. and Mrs. Omer Stant of Bentonville and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Six of Gwynneville. Mr. and Mrs. A W Winfield entertained Mr. and Mrs. A J Carr for Mrs Carrs birthday dinner at Sullivan's Restaurant Knightstown. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Pitts and daughter Linda Pitts spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. L W Mohler at Oaklandon. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Whitfield were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Rhodes. Mrs Ethel Collins spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hoover and family. Mrs Virginia Wells and daughter were Sunday guests and accompanied her home. Miss Karen Graff of Indianapolis was a weekend guest of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Joe Graff.
Rush County Republicans elected Newton Halterman as county chairman to succeed the late Richard A. Phillips. The meeting in Rushville also named Ercell Bever treasurer and May Ball assistant treasurer. John N. Hughes became Rushville city chairman.
The Carthage High School Home Economics II students display sewing pieces for a baby layette in Carthage Citizen windows. Each girl made about twelve items including dresses slips blankets towels bibs sleepers hats booties and lined baskets. Under instructor Mrs. Odessa Bieschke the group completed the work with praise from Rushville department store visitors. The display runs until next Wednesday or Thursday for public viewing.
Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Price will observe their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house at Hannegan Christian Church from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday February 17. They married February 19, 1913 at Rushville Christian Church parasronage by Cyrus M. Youm. They have one son Lowell I. Price and two grandchildren.
Mr and Mrs James Ellis and daughter Carol and Cynthia Pear son and Roy Small attended the Butler St Joseph game at Butler Fieldhouse Wednesday night. Miss Carol Hawkins of Muncie spent from Thursday until Sunday with her grandparents Mr and Mrs Loyal Hunt. Her parents Mr and Mrs Leland Hawkins and son were Sunday dinner guests and accompanied her home. Mr and Mrs Leonard Jackson spent the weekend with their son and family Mr and Mrs Paul Jackson and son at Hobart Indiana. En route home they visited Mr and Mrs Victor Kerlin at Lapel. Mr and Mrs Kenneth Rhodes spent Saturday evening at the home of Mrs Grace Jones at Philadelphia. Mr and Mrs Ralph McClarnon attended the Butler University ball game at Butler Fieldhouse Wednesday night.
Women’s City Tourney doubles drew 94 entrants at Rushville Bowl. Winners Carol Miller and Ida Stafford posted 632 actual series and 1096 actual 1210 with handicap for first place. Second through tenth places listed with partner pairs and handicaps. Georges Alleys Carth Knight teams prepare for Sunday team event. public invited to watch.
Mr and Mrs Marion Steward and son hosted a party February 4 in the evening for Jack Steward turning 19. Guests included Junior Whifield Brenda Ross Floyd Steward Mrs Bertha Steward and Carol Steward Mr and Mrs Albert Lee Steward and son. Refreshments of cake ice cream and pepsis were served.

Walter Dyer 58 a Pendleton resident and Carthage native died of leukemia Sunday at Lilly Clinic General Hospital Indianapolis He was a Delco Remy machinist in Anderson for 34 years survived by wife Mary two sons Paul and Richard a sister Hazel Springer and one grandson Services were held Tuesday at Frazier Funeral Home Morristown burial in Asbury Cemetery Martinsville area
Fourteen members attended the regular monthly meeting at the Masonic Hall with Roy Stanley presiding. Mrs. Bonita Patterson will become president at the next gathering, while Mrs. Ralph Mosier read the minutes and refreshments were provided by Mrs. Frank Alexander.
Edgar V. Ruby marked his 93rd birthday on February 14 at the Jackson Nursing Home in Rushville. His sons Charles Ruby of Fullerton California and Leonard Ruby of Fort Lauderdale Florida visited recently, along with daughter Mrs. Robert Walker of Carthage R. R. 2. Charles Ruby was a guest from Saturday to Tuesday, while Leonard Ruby stays this week.
A fourth term Iowa congressman Fred Schwengel will be the principal speaker at the Rush County Lincoln Day Banquet to be held at 6 30 p m Friday in the Durbin Hotel. John N Hughes is named chairman and Newton Halterman will make his first public appearance as county chairman succeeding the late Richard A Phillips.
The Woman's Society of Christian Service met on February 7 at the Methodist annex with nineteen and one guest, Mrs Eugene R Gardner. Mrs Gardner joined the group. The meeting opened with I Love To Tell The Story. The president Mrs Raymond Kennedy read The Dimensions of Prayer from The Methodist Woman. Visiting committee for February was Mrs Charles Whitfield and Mrs Marvin Johnson. Cheer cards were signed for the sick. Mrs Stan Lynch gave the lesson on Honoring the Parents of Missionaries. Mrs Robert Walker read A Half Burned Out Candle.
Mr and Mrs Frank Alexander hosted a birthday dinner on Wednesday February 6 to honor Mrs Robert McKain. Guests included Mr and Mrs Paul Scott Mr and Mrs Fred Parrish Mr and Mrs Robert McKain and Sherry and Mike.
