Infant Whitfield dies after short illness at Rush Memorial

Nyla Jean Whitfield infant daughter of Mr and Mrs Richard Whitfield died at 8 a m Thursday at Rush Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Born December 5 1960 to Janice Bolinger Whitfield and Richard Whitfield. Survived by parents a brother Dennis paternal grandparent Mrs Beulah Whitfield Carthage maternal grandparents Mr and Mrs Leo Bolinger Lewisville. Rev Herman Parker will conduct services with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery Hampton Mortuary in charge.

North-end grocery repairs after oil store explosion soot

Owner Mr. Gorman says the North-end grocery has cleaned up after the recent oil store blast that coated the shop with soot and smoke. A new interior paint job now gives the place a pleasing appearance.

Escapes Injury in Train Collision Near Rushville

Eugene Leisure of A. A. escaped serious injury after his car skidded into the side of a slow moving New York Central freight train. The crash occurred at a crossing about ten miles north of Rushville early Friday morning.

Mrs Homer Bowers underwent eye surgery at Rush Memorial Hospital last week and returned home Tuesday. Nelson Cook of R A 1 is sick at his home, confined the past few days. Orville Leisure, previously at Community Hospital in Indianapolis after lung surgery, is slowly improving and moved Thursday to his daughter Mrs Beverly Berninger in Delphi. Mrs Fred McManus is slowly improving at her home in St Petersburg Florida.

Several Carthage parents accompanied their children to Muncie for music auditions sponsored by the Indiana School Music Association held at Ball State College. New Salem Eagles Rout Raiders on Noble Township Court

The 1961 Rush County champions New Salem Eagles crushed the Raiders 66 to 44 after a close start. Larry Angle scored 35 for the Eagles while Jon Smith led Carthage with 10. The Eaglets won the curtain-raiser 42-41 as Cooper hit a late field goal.

Vernon Talmadge Adkins 41 died at 9 20 p m last Thursday at his Route 1 Morristown home after a 22 month illness. New Castle firm McCord & Bavender secured a $160000 contract for the Greenfield post office expansion after bidding against 12 competitors. Postmaster Wayne Crider announced the award and expects construction to begin soon. Mrs Mabel Ford McFatridge of Miami died last week at Coral Gables Hospital aged 75. She was born in Wyoming on April 22 1885 and married Charles McFatridge in 1905. She leaves a sister Myrtle Wagoner and a brother Harry Ford among nieces and nephews.

Death of Indiana Representative Ewbank at 70

Rushville mourns State Representative Howard W. Ewbank 70 who died Saturday at St. Francis Hospital Beech Grove after a heart ailment. A Republican from Rush and Henry Counties and first term legislator, he chaired county and township issues and served on Ways and Means and Agriculture committees. Survived by Sadie Broadhead Ewbank widow, two sons, a daughter, two brothers, a sister, 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral held Tuesday in Rushville with prior illness during the Indiana Legislature session.
