Rush County extension notes show 1650 farmers received about 460000 under the 1939 Agricultural Adjustment Act. Parity payments totaled 45000 for wheat and 110000 for corn, with 315000 in soil conservation. Loans and crop insurance aided 1938-39 crops and 235 wheat growers insured. Dry wells and low water affect many farms as citrus warm weather issues rise.
Carthage High School Blue Raiders outscored Manilla Owls 28 to 25 after a tight start. A third quarter spurt, key plays by Webb and A Tuttle, and solid defense overturned an early Manilla lead, as Carthage’s bench also won 24 18 over the Owls seconds.
Rushville beats Batesville 30 to 16 on Friday while Milroy defeats Arlington 25 to 22. Morton leads Mays 56 to 16 and Saturday night Rushville wins 27 22 over Shortridge as Morton edges Sacred Heart 27 25 and New Lisbon visits Mays 47 28.
Local schedule lists matchups including St Paul versus Milroy, Sandusky against New Salem, Orange versus Mays, Raleigh versus Morton, Carthage against Westland, Economy facing Carthage, and Liber at Morton in a regional lineup.
Mr and Mrs Howard Henley joined Dr and Mrs Murray Hadley in Indianapolis for a Sunday evening lecture by Dr Fay Cooper Cole of Chicago University at the War Memorial auditorium.

The Rush county December real estate transfers totaled 33 items with 240,265 dollars. The largest entry was the Edward Retherford farm in Rushville township at 20414 acres sold for 14,000 dollars to Peter Lambertus and wife of Marion county. Ripley township items include Sylvester D. Moore and Roxie J. Moore conveying multiple Carthage parcels to Lillia A. Moore and others for one dollar.
The annual 4-H Club Achievement Day will be held at the Christian church in Rushville Saturday afternoon. Sponsored by county Home Economics clubs, the event honors 4-H girls who completed their work. Led by Mrs. Mattie Publow, the local Home Economics leader and county clubs president, hostesses include Mrs. Charles Sweet, Mrs. J. W. Aiken, Mrs. Charles Abercrombie, and Mrs. William Reeves. The program committee features Mrs. Burl Matney and Mrs. Dorothy Wissing among others. Program starts at 1 30 p m. The notice outlines the schedule and speakers for last year's work.
Invitations have been mailed to Indiana piano teachers for entries in Indiana's Fourth Piano Festival to be held Sunday afternoon and evening, April 7, at Butler University Field House in Indianapolis. The Wilking Foundation sponsors the event with Frank O. Wilking conducting and proceeds funding scholarships for talented students.
Mr and Mrs M S Kyser and daughter Sharlee along with Mrs Belle Phelps and Mrs Maude Porter were in Greenfield Sunday night and heard Stamps Baxte r Melody Boys who are heard each weekday morning at 830 over WHAS radio station.
Mrs. Nelle Nibarger of Carthage area sues James C. Nibarger for divorce. Married March 25, 1939, separated December 8, 1939. She accuses him of cursing her, name calling, and occasional striking. Seeks restoration of maiden name Nellie Keim.
Ten young people with Rev C V McMillan and A B Thompson attended the Young Peoples Methodist Rally at the Milroy Methodist church. The Wesley Foundation of IU provided the program with Merrill D McFall in charge. Carthage won the award for largest turnout and greatest distance. Attendees include Bertha Mae Stephens Billy Walton Marjorie Freeman Esther McCorkle Grace Magee Lois Henderson Betty Jo Revolt Betty Wells Jule Jordan and Gerald Henderson.
James Tarbet of Rushville called on his mother Mrs. Mary Tarbet on Wednesday.
The Carthage community will hold a World Day of Prayer service Friday at 2 PM at the Friends church. Christian women from over fifty countries unite in prayer across time zones from Fiji and New Zealand to Alaska, without regard to race or color.
Two petitions from Center township residents seek to graft Shively's Corner Knightstown road onto State Road 140 near the I S S Children's Home. Led by L A Cortner with 92 signatures and Henry Loudenback with 54, they ask grading drainage and 22 foot pavement with a 50 foot right of way over 1 1/8 miles to connect with the blacktopped Carthage and Mays road, citing heavy use by mail and school bus.
Sixteen township trustees and high school principals visited the Rush County school on Tuesday. The Home Economics class of freshmen and sophomores prepared a splendid dinner under Miss Martha Jo Bentley. The group visited seventeen schools Tuesday and will have another visiting day next week.
Cornelius Loveaul was taken to Henry County hospital in New Castle Monday for surgery. His condition was reported as not good at this writing.
Eleven members of Kappa Kappa Sigma attended the Founders Day banquet at the Columbia club in Indianapolis. A Wasson's style show followed music by a Hawaiian ensemble, and Miss Katrine Harany of Palestine spoke about escaping war from France. Mrs. Mary Tweedy, grand secretary, was honored as a member. Attendees included Gertrude Bush Ruth Bishop Alta Carr Mary Eleanor Bush Mary Ellen Pearson Fan Reynolds Helen Ruby Isabel Sigler Ann Stager Mary Tweedy and Carolyn Norris.
Mr and Mrs Guy Ewing and Mr and Mrs Rue Ewing visit their mother Mrs Mary Ewing in Henry County hospital. Mrs Ewing suffered a stroke in the latter part of the week.
The Choral club entertained the Music Study club of Rushville with a potluck dinner at Friends church and an 8 pm program featuring Puccini’s Madame Butterfly. The string ensemble and vocal solos by Mrs Bruce Urbahns and Miss Janet Hogsett highlighted readings by many members.
The World Call notes Paul H. Fall, former Carthage student and Williams College chemistry professor, has been elected president of Hiram College Ohio. He taught for 16 years at Williams, earned degrees from Oberlin Cornell, and received an honorary LL D in 1937. He and his wife have two sons and he is praised for leadership and public service in Hiram village.
Mrs Arminta Moore slipped on the steps at her home Monday morning injuring her arm and ankle. An X ray showed no broken bones but torn ligaments.
Rev. Wayne Newcum Rev. Murray S. Kenworthy and Rev. Charles S. Winslow attended the Ninth Indiana Pastors Conference and the Eleventh Annual Convention of the Indiana Council of Church Women at the First Baptist church in Indianapolis. Kenworthy spoke at the luncheon while Rev. and Mrs. Newcum visited Mrs. Newcum's parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Foster, during the three day event.
