A three year old boy, John Bryan Jr., son of Centerville bank cashier John Bryan Sr., was released unharmed on Christmas Eve after a daring kidnap plot aimed at securing 3800 dollars. A 17 year old nurse was also taken. abductors split into two groups and trials to rendezvous failed.

Clar ence Dyer of Center township was named 1937 Corn King at Rush county corn growers banquet in Rushville. His ten ear exhibit beat Sandy Phares of Orange township, who won first in professional class as 361 attendees enjoyed music and makeup demonstration by Noah Beilharz.
Vital statistics show Rush County and Rushville both had more births than deaths in November. County figures: 19 births, 16 deaths. Rushville city: 9 births, 8 deaths. eight contagious disease cases reported including measles and scarlet fever. Birth list names 11 individuals across county and city.
Governor Townsend granted a two month extension for 1938 license plates pushing the deadline to March 1. Driver and chauffeur licenses still expire January 1 and are not affected by the extension.
The Diamond Service Station on South Main Street run by Earl Nowotne and son was broken into Tuesday night. Thieves shattered the east window, unlocked a window, and took little loot. Losses were two cases of 760 oil and some anti-freeze. Sheriff Dallas Hardwick and Town Marshal McCorkle investigated. no fingerprints were found, but footprints were seen in an ash pile at the rear.
Mary Aldridge age 80 died Saturday Christmas morning at her Sharpsville home. She was an aunt of Mabel DeMoss. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Arcadia M E church with attendees William DeMoss and family, Ola Reed, and several Alters from Gowdy Moscow and Rushville.

Mrs. Charles Rhodes III remains ill at her home near Henderson after a recent operation. Her condition has not fully improved.
Mr. and Mrs. Ey. T. Beher were Sunday guests of Mayor and Mrs. James Allen in Greenfield. Their stop highlights local social life and civic circles in the town.
A daughter named Rosalie was born on Christmas Eve at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis to Rev. and Mrs. R H Myers. The baby weighed seven pounds fourteen ounces and both mother and child are doing well. Four year old Bobby is with grandparents in Connersville and will return home early next week.
The Carthage Citizen offers a dollar yearly subscription this December only. Many patrons already joined and some gave the gift to friends. The offer lasts until midnight December 31 and promises inclusion on a new preferred list.
Everette Howard admitted stealing items from Raymond Dickey’s residence north of Carthage including a shotgun, clothing, a Ieiger set and two comforts. The shotgun was traced to a McCarty Drug Store robbery. Howard’s car held a revolver linked to the store theft. He previously served sentences and will be turned over to Madison County authorities for burglary charges.

Walter Cline of Martinsville Illinois died when his truck struck a bridge abutment on Route 52 near Rushville. His son Robert, sixteen, escaped but was badly burned while attempting to rescue him. The wreck occurred at 10 30 a m with no eyewitnesses.
Rush county patrons in IU annual service survey include 3450 for educational films 30 for drama loans 540 for main libraries five in correspondence study 84 patients in University hospitals eight in psychological clinics and 31 students on campus. Many other services were provided but not itemized in the county.
