The paper promises hometown news, pictures, and features, aiming to reach every home in Ripley Township by 1947. Delinquent subscribers may pay up in December before rates revert to 2.00 after January 1, 1947.
Lair Halterman son of world corn king Newton L Halterman captured the Rush County Corn Show sweepstakes crown with a ten car exhibit of W19x38 11 single cross corn. He also won champion single ear and champion ten ear exhibits in 4-H classes while Donald Stoten Jr. earned reserve sweepstakes with hybrid produce and the Lincoln soybean displays.
Church announces Basil Stultz pastor Jessie Munden superintendent John Redmond assistant superintendent and Louise Cook teacher. Services listed including Sunday School at 10 30 and evening service at 7 with prayer meetings midweek. Revival begins Sunday January 5 with Evangelist Rev Wagoner and family. Remember the date and attend as 1946 ends.
Walter McAdams serves as pastor at Walnut Ridge Friends. Loyall Hunt is superintendent of Sunday School at 9 30. Morning worship is 10 80 with evening service at 7 30. Prayer meeting is Wednesday at 7 30.

Ercel Davis of Container Corporation yards sustained a bruised lip when a bale bounced up and struck him in the face this week. He has continued work despite the injury and discomfort.
Finley Nelson of Tweedy Lumber Co. suffered a painful injury Thursday morning at the lumber yard planing shop when his right forefinger and thumb were badly cut and the ends of two other fingers were affected. The full extent was not known by press time as the wound continued bleeding.
County Agent O L Spuller reports 2 acre soy bean yields from K E Beeson of Purdue. Cedric Power of Anderson township tops the county with 41.6 bushels per acre and earns a gold medal. state leader George Shell of Madison County produced 55 bushels per acre. Indiana award levels place gold at 40 45, silver 35 40, bronze 30 35. Results list Gold Cedric Power 41.6, Donald Stoten Jr 39.9. Silver Newton Malterman 36.6, Byron Hiner 36.4, Weldon Benson 35.0, Donald Stoten Sr 35.0, Charles Becht 34.9, Leonard E Jackson 34.7. Indiana University reports a fall enrollment of 18,922 with 13,294 full time and 5,628 part time students. Nearly 90 percent are Indiana residents and about half are veterans. The first semester ends February 1 and the second begins February 12. Arrangements allow 1200 new students for February. Rush county students listed include Carthage George B. McNabb and Richard C. The Carthage Lions Club hosted a Christmas wives night dinner at the Community Center basement with 97 attendees including members guests and families. Mr and Mrs Glen Wagoner entertained with Christmas music and readings and Santa distributed gifts during a gift exchange. A short business session followed and Ralph R Reames was inducted as a new member.
Carthage Arlington and Milroy lead the field with strong season records. Historic winners list tracks rivals through 1920 to 1947 with Morton Manilla New Salem and Raleigh among notable opponents. County basketball tourney draws eight teams with Blue Raiders vs Manilla opening Thursday.
Maxine Maple drove on the Arlington Carthage road last Sunday afternoon and skidded into a ditch two miles north of Arlington. She escaped injury. Her 1941 Dodge was damaged on the left side by fence scratches.
Christmas morning greetings connected families across Morristown Franklin and Charlottesville with Mrs Elly Nelson and the Finley Nelsons hosting a breakfast at the Talbert home near Morristown. John White and family hosted a Christmas dinner with several guests from Lansing to New London and Charlottesville. Community members greeting others at dinners included Mrs Gouldie Kyser hosting with Rev DeWitt Foster and many others across Marion New Castle and Carthage. Morris Henley, Indianapolis Star editor and pneumonia patient, was reported improving after hospital treatment. A Christmas Eve party for telephone operators closed the season with a decorated tree and gifts for the "Hello girls" and a note promising more next week.
Indiana Department of Conservation seeks a 50 thousand dollar biennial appropriation from the 1947 Legislature to secure public access to lakes and streams. Director John H. Nigh notes much land near fishing spots isn’t public and state ownership would aid fishermen, with proposed annual purchases of 25 thousand dollars for two years and possible park amenities. The commission considers license hikes or legislative reimbursement to cover lost veteran license revenue.
Mr and Mrs Lowell Brooks announce the birth of a son Saturday morning at City Hospital. The new family member arrives as the Brooks household grows with the addition of a baby boy.
