Marilyn Jackson Jamett Heim and Bob Baker of the Carthage group attended a Junior Leader meeting in Rushville Sunday afternoon.
Parvel Moore came back to his home on Saturday from Rush Memorial hospital and shows gradual improvement.
Mr and Mrs Jerry Edwards Rex Edwards and Mrs Fletcher Edwards returned Sunday morning from a few weeks vacation in Los Angeles California visiting relatives.
Mr and Mrs Bernard Montgomery sold their North Walnut Street property to Mrs Mary Gorman and children formerly of R R 2 Carthage.
Mrs Henry Jessup entered Rush Memorial hospital Sunday for observation and treatment as doctors reviewed her condition and planned care.
Mr. Collins husband of Mrs. Bertha Lineback Collins died Saturday at home in Marion. Funeral services were held Tuesday. Mrs. Collins formerly lived in Carthage and was sister to the late J. A. Lineback and to Mrs. Blaine Addison of Knightstown.
Carol Schoolfield daughter of Rev and Mrs Schoolfield of Indianapolis will be presented in her senior piano recital December 7 at 8 pm in the Evansville College Union Building. A reception will follow the program. She is recipient of the Presser Foundation Music Scholarship for four years in college. Carol was born in Carthage when Rev Schoolfield was minister at Fletcher Methodist Church.
Mrs Ida Parker widow of William F Parker and retired Friend minister of Carthage Friends died Monday in Richmond after a short illness. Survived by daughter Margaret of Richmond and three foster daughters Ethel Oran of Richmond Amelia Lindsey of Media Pa and Frances Grant of New York. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Fountain City Burial in Willow Grove cemetery.
Thirty nine Rush County residents enrolled at Purdue University for the 1956 57 fall semester. The on campus total stands at 13029. A December tree at Carthage Friends church will be decorated with mittens socks and gloves to be donated to the Friends Service Committee and shipped overseas. Members and visitors are invited to contribute by tying sewing or donating warm garments of their size and color and bring them to the church porch or to a member for acceptance.

Rush County and Ripley communities are urged to buy Christmas Seals to fund tuberculosis work. The TB Association notes 1500+ Indiana cases last year, 43 new Rush County cases, seven deaths, and six new cases last year. The sale funds local programs, clinics, mass screenings, and education, with 82 percent staying local.
The Carthage Legion Auxiliary met at the Community Center for a Christmas party with Jr. Auxiliary members and guests including Miss Sandra Miller and Mrs. Omas Alexander. Hazel Alexander led the business meeting and a motion supported Kids Kanteen if re opened. baskets were voted to be given this year. A $1 gift exchange and gift presentation to Hazel Alexander district president Bertha Beck and Miss Sandra Miller followed, with refreshments served by Norma McKain and Hazel.
The LaFrance fire truck ordered by the Town Council in the fall will reach Carthage by train on Monday December 10. It is shipped from El Mira New York and will be unloaded at Container Corporation with Mr R C Brown assisting and testing the vehicle. The purchase price was 12230 dollars 67 cents.
Miss Martha L. David of CARE Chicago appeals for American donations to fund 5 million surplus food packages for 20 million refugees and needy people in 18 countries during the 1956 Food Crusade. Each 22 pound package costs one dollar and feeds a family of four for a month.
An organization of non licensed practical nurses held a Thursday night gathering at Mrs. William Gregory’s home in Rushville. New officers elected include Mrs. Joe Fordyce president, Mrs. Gregory vice president, Mrs. Land second vice president, Mrs. Merle Grocox secretary, and Mrs. Sarah Wilson treasurer. The group will meet on the last Thursday of each month.
Miss Lillian Henley shows slight improvement while staying at Rush Memorial Hospital. Doctors report steady progress in her recovery.
Mya Scull entered Rush Metal hospital Monday. Mrs Scullently fell at home and sustained a broken hip.
Mr and Mrs Russell Shutt announce the engagement of their daughter Mary Ann to Richard Beise of Philadelphia. The couple will marry Friday December 14 at 8 30 p m in Central Christian Church Indianapolis. Public invited.
Republicans outspent Democrats by about five to one in Rush County's November 6 election with receipts of 6291.80 and expenditures of 4991.45 leaving 1300.35, while Democrats recorded 1213.11 in receipts and 1010.23 in expenditures leaving 202.88. The largest GOP donor was banker-attorney Philip H. Willkie with 500. Others filed expense reports from five victorious Republicans including Louise Phillips and Wayne White. Frank D. Hope reported expenses after defeat.
Charles Moore suffered a stroke at his residence Sunday evening and is described as slightly improved since the incident.
Rush County extends a new Weigh A Day A Month dairy program approved by the D H I A and operated through the county extension office. Cooperators enroll for one year and weigh each cow’s milk monthly on the fifteenth, send reports to the extension office for herd production calculations, with confidential results to guide feeding culling and breeding decisions.
Donald Stoten Jr of Ripley township posted the top 5 acre soybean yield at 39.8 bushels per acre earning a Gold Medal. Cecil Hartman Jackson township, George Riggs Richland township and Clarence Arnold Union township won Silver Medals with yields of 37.7, 36.9 and 36.7 bushels per acre respectively. Four contestants completed official checks. medals awarded at Rush County Corn Show on December 22 at 1 p.m. in the courthouse assembly room.
Alpha Beta chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma celebrated an anniversary and Christmas party at the Durbin Hotel Rushville Tuesday evening. Members received Christmas earrings and enjoyed a song fest led by Margaret Ann Keller and a candle lighting by Gladys Smith. Hope Harvey of Connersville presented a review of The Littlest Shepherd.
Carthage Raiders defeated Manilla 1954 by 59 46 at Carthage in a battle of the unbeatens. Gary McClurg led Carthage with 22 points 10 of 10 free throws and Pat Watkins added 23. Manilla’s Don Whittle stood out for the Owls as Carthage pulled away in the second half. In the B game Carthage won 34-22 amid suspensions of Sonny Smith Jim Mosier and Ronnie Magee.
In last week's issue an obituary reference misnamed Mrs Bayard Bakers brother. The correct name is Jacob Earhart correcting the previous Jacob Earnest designation.
Carthage Blue Raiders remain unbeaten with a 66 64 win over Liberty. Pat Watkins hit a last second field goal to seal the East Central Conference victory as Watkins scored 22 and Bill Parish 20 for Carthage while Fields led Liberty. Carthage Second team also defeated Liberty Seconds 34 25.
Earlham College sophomore David Kenworthy, 19, was killed in an auto accident near Greenville Ohio. He was the grandson of the Rev and Mrs Murray Kenworthy, former Carthage Friends church minister.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday at the Friends church in Raysville for Oliver Davis with Rev. Harry Cooper presiding. Burial followed in the Friends cemetery in Raysville.
