Longtime Carthage resident Isaac Hill dies aged 89

Isaac Hill a prominent Rush County resident and former factory operator died Thursday after a long illness. Born June 20, 1826 in Rush County, he left behind a wife Elizabeth Winslow Hill, a daughter Mrs W J Porter, eight grandchildren, and a large extended family. Funeral services were held at his Riverside Cemetery residence with Rev Archibald Ericksson and Rev H R Hole presiding.

Nitroglycerin Blast Hits Fraim Farm Well Near Rushville

A nitroglycerin charge prematurely exploded in a gas well on the Fraim farm northwest of Rushville. Ed Adkins and his crew of Rushville for the Peoples Gas Company had sunk a twenty quart shell and were lowering a ten quart charge for the firing head at about 300 feet. The explosion damaged the roof and derrick.

Miss Lora Swain daughter of Mr and Mrs Nathan C Swain of Raysville and Clarence Mattox son of Mr and Mrs Oliver Mattox of Carthage were married Saturday evening in New Castle. The Mattox couple arrived in Carthage Sunday and are staying with his parents.
