They later travel to Evansville for a few days to see relatives and attended races at Dade Park. They called on Mr and Mrs Malggim Jessup and family. Johnnie Jessup and Robert attended a program at the new amphitheater in Evansville.

165 4-H Steers Entered in Southeastern Indiana Show

One hundred sixty five 4-H steers owned by 103 members from 14 counties are entered in the Sixth Southeastern Indiana District 4-H Fat Steer Show and Sale at Rushville on September 13. The Rushville Chamber of Commerce sponsors prizes and ribbons with judging by Gerald Clodfelter of Greencastle. The sale offers substantial cash prizes from breed associations and industry partners, with proceeds going to exhibitors.

S L Newsom Enters State Spelling Contest

Sam L Newsom will enter the state wide spelling contest at the State Fairgrounds in the Woman's Building next Sunday afternoon August 31 at 2 oclock Daylight Savings Time. Last year his entry was late but he served as an honorary judge and he won the Rushville Historical Society spelling bee in February. A style show will follow the contest at the fair grounds.

Music Director Joe Switzer Dies After Surgery

Joe Switzer music director of New Salem High School died at Methodist Hospital Indianapolis Monday at 10 35 am following an operation a week earlier. He taught in New Salem since 1947 after earlier posts in Parke Benton and Warren counties and was a Central Normal College graduate. He leaves his widow three sons Billy Bob and Dick twins and several siblings with parents residing in Indianapolis.

Mrs Maude Schutt Returns Home After Hospital Stay

Mrs Maude Schutt of west of Carthage has returned home after medical treatment at Major Hospital Shelbyville. Her condition is satisfactory. Twice Four Bridge Club met at Mrs Mary Taylor's home at 1:00 PM Wednesday. High prize won by Gladys Smith and low by Edna Nelle Kennedy. Guests included Bertha Beck Rachel King Leone Moser Anna Mildred Gardner and Mary Ellen McClurg. Dainty refreshments were served.

Home From Two Weeks Vacation

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Flick returned Friday night from a two week trip that included the National Convention of Rural Letter Carriers in Stillwater Oklahoma and visits to Colorado Springs Denver and Pikes Peak where snow surprised them. They called on friends across Missouri Arkansas and Kansas and saw extensive flower gardens including 200 acres of flowers in Missouri where car loads of peonies and other blooms were shipped.
