Engines hummed as Miss Neva Fricke of Indianapolis married Simeon Bell on Sunday afternoon. The couple flew from Municipal Airport to Cincinnati on Bell's first airplane trip.
The Dionne quintuplets, ill for two weeks, have recovered and are released from constant care by Dr. Dafoe to play in the playground under the view of thousands. This marks their first major illness, with a smooth recovery confirmed by the physician.
A large Indiana Legion parade to close the state convention named Harold A. Shhindler of Newbur h Warrick county as commander after a heated race. Mrs Gladys Huckleberry of Salem was chosen Auxiliary leader amid the crowd of six thousand including women children and floats.
Four hunger strike inmates died in an airtight cell block at Philadelphia County Jail. Coroner says steam killed them as battered naked bodies were found in adjoining punishment cells. Survivors crawled to toilets for water before succumbing. hunger strike began last Friday. State wide probe underway.
David Snyder a 26 year old Johnson county farmer won the state tomato picking title yesterday defeating several contestants. He said he entered for fun and had no plan to win. He also holds a corn shucking championship. The winner received 50 dollars as Governor M Clifford Townsend and tomato canning officials congratulated him. Miss Peggy Walsh presided at the farm near Southport and the state show in the Claypool Hotel lobby.
Renown speed pilot Frank Hawks died in a crash near East Aurora New York while testing the Gwinn Aircar a private craft for Hazard Campbell an East Aurora socialite who also perished in the wreck.
Dr. S A Zimmerman testified that Orelle and Clarence Easton were unquestionably unstable when Trooper Ray Dixon was killed on June 26. Orelle faces the death penalty in La Porte Superior Court at Michigan City for Dixon’s slaying. He was captured and his brother was killed by officers the day Dixon died.
A black and white alley cat and her kittens blocked a downtown South Bend drugstore construction site Wednesday. Workers tried to coax them out of an enclosure, but the feline family remained hidden and disrupted work.
The Ripley Township Historical Society met Aug 18 with 38 attendees at Ella Moore’s home then 44 at Friends church for a talk by Arthur B. Carr, curator of the Indianapolis Children’s Museum. Plans for biweekly student essay contests were announced to end with essays published by the Carthage Citizen.
Mrs Walter Chrysler wife of the automobile manufacturer died at her home from cerebral hemorrhage. She was a cousin of Mrs Merle D Hill of Carthage Joe Michael of Milroy and Mrs Mary Rakestraw of Lima Ohio. Chrysler was formerly Delta Forker and had visited the Michaels in Carthage as a girl. Her mother Mrs Cassie Forker and Mrs M D Michael were sisters.
Mr. and Mrs. Bayard Baker returned Friday evening from Arkansas where they visited relatives. Mrs. Baker's sister, Mrs. Pearl Drescher, accompanied them for an extended visit.
Mr and Mrs A J Carr and their sons Jim and Jack visited Mrs Frank Thomas in St Louis last week.

Mrs J A Lineback and Mrs Luther Gibson with six sisters gathered in Indianapolis for a full day at the home of Mr and Mrs Fay Wright honoring Mrs Leon Scott. The group included Mrs Wright Mrs Scott Mrs Lineback Mrs Gibson Mrs Naomi Jordan and Mrs Grover Shimer. Mrs Scott will return to Los Angeles after visiting Carthage and Indianapolis.
Miss Janet Rawls of Washington D C spent the weekend with her mother Mrs Avery S Rawls. She is being sent by her firm to report hearings conducted by the U S Department of Agriculture in the fruit districts of California Oregon and Washington.
A one day teachers institute on Thursday September 1 in the county assembly room will mark the start of the new school year. County superintendent Charles De Munbrun calls all teachers to attend and outlines organizational plans with sessions on September 2 and September 6. Book lists set costs by grade and where to buy or send funds.
Capehart Farm near Washington Indiana gears up for the Republican Cornfield Conference with an estimated crowd of 25000, tents lights and facilities laid out to stage speakers from national and state party leadership including Willis Hamilton and Miss Marian Martin.
