Mr and Mrs John Winslow of Whiteland Indiana announce the birth of a son this week. The infant is a grandson of Mrs Claribel Winslow of Greenfield and great grandson of Mrs Anna Sipe of Rushville, all formerly of Carthage.
William C. Parson returned home to Carthage with his wife and two children after treatment at Irene Byron hospital in Ft. Wayne.
Rushville families Albert and Dora Ray return from a week at Lake Shafer with sons and Mrs Mary Shelton. Keith Ray and daughter Norrene weekend at Lake Shafer. Howard Windsor Delmar Sipes vacation in Ludington Michigan with plans for Maude Porter Kelley Veach joining later. Marlin Sandefur returns from North Carolina. Wilbur McCorkle trips to Ozark Lake Missouri. Robert Stoner family visit Ft Wayne and spend weekend at McClick Lake Indiana.
Ollie Stephens Jr of Carthage was fined 10 dollars plus costs and given a one year sentence at the Indiana State Farm, suspended on good behavior, for issuing a fraudulent check to P N Hirsch & Co Knightstown. Jackie Hansford Evans of Knightstown was fined 10 dollars plus costs and given a suspended two to 14 year sentence on forgery, for a forged check passed to Marsh Foodliner July 19 purportedly signed by Harry McNew to Gale Bridges.
The operator's license of Harry Garlin Zornes of R. R. 2 Carthage is suspended for one year ending July 9 1959 for drunken driving according to the State Bureau of Motor Vehicles reported this week.
Mr and Mrs O C McCarty departed Wednesday for a several weeks stay in Mackinaw City Michigan awaiting a pleasant vacation in northern Michigan with time to enjoy the scenery and outdoor activities.

Mrs Wayne Osborn and Mrs Robert McKain represented the local American Legion Auxiliary as delegates at the State Convention in South Bend Indiana, attending Friday Saturday and Sunday sessions.
The Junior Young People group gathered at East St Christian Church last Thursday at 7 p.m. About fifteen attendees joined in indoor games and refreshments served by Rosemary Jackson and Sherry Mc. The meeting closed with the Friendship Circle and prayer.
The Methodist Youth Fellowship met Monday at 8:00. Sue Siler opened with the call to worship and read scripture. Sheryl Mosier led singing. Stan Lynch presented the lesson and led prayer. Jeannine Terhune offered closing remarks.
The Carthage Merchants defeated Moore's of Shelbyville 5 to 0 to take the district title at Arlington diamond. Pitcher Gary Stewart allowed four hits with one walk and three strikeouts as Carthage built an early lead and held on for the win.
Cecil Tague pitched for Carthage and held Glenwood to four singles as Carthage won 7 to 1 in six innings. Stewart homered for the winners while Bob McCorkle and Fred Magee added doubles. Glenwood, tired from a prior 4-2 win over Arlington, reached the semi final in a contested clash.
Carthage faces Trafalgar in Thursday night semi final at Cambridge City to start the two game slate. Connersville battles Cambridge City in opening clash and Muncie Koolvent meets Ko komo Friday night followed by Muncie Merchants versus Wabash. Winners compete Saturday then Sunday for the title and the victor advances to the State meet at College Corner Indiana August 21 to 23.
Mr and Mrs Robert Jackson and their sons arrived home Monday after a seventeen day auto trip to California They enjoyed sunny weather in Colorado Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm saw the Grand Canyon Desert and petrified forest en route home Their voyage included ocean swimming and scenic vistas

The 106th Indiana State Fair runs August 27 to September 4 in Indianapolis with Bob Hope Tennessee Ernie Ford and Arthur Godfrey leading major shows. The event features the Mills Brothers Molly Bee the Four Preps and the Everly Brothers along with a $55 000 horse show and aerial acts by Walker Dicks International Diving Champs and Acapulco cliff divers. A helicopter act by Larry Ruhl and Sandy Winters tops the bill with Western star Michael Ansara and John Lupton in The All Western Horse Show. Queen contest captain Kangaroo meets visitors and tickets are available by mail.
Rush county Soil Conservation District hosts a Thursday tour with four farm stops at Ellis, Reddick, Kimmell Hinchman, and an alternate Riggs farm. Demonstrations include sodded waterway construction, tile drainage, alfalfa and grasses plots, and a completed waterway. Purdue University and Soil Conservation Service staff will explain practices.
Fair weather marked the Rush County 4H Camp at Versailles Hassmer Hill from August 7 to 10. About 20 local 4H youths and one leader, including Deanna Carroll Mary Ellen Karen Siler Sally Bush Stanley and Judith Leisure, attended the annual event.
Golden Dawn Farms led results at the Connersville Fair with Ed Meyer of Noble township winning grand champion Angus steer and reserve champion. The operation claimed champion Angus bull, reserve champion Angus heifer, reserve Angus steer, and reserve Get-of-fire with other placings by A J Meyers and sons including junior yearling Angus and Shorthorn calves.
Gov. Harold W. Handley announced the appointment of Henry L. Stinger of Carthage as curator of the Indiana state museum. He succeeds Verne Patty of Carmel, who led the post for 34 years. Stinger has led the Rush County Historical Society and organized local historic groups and pioneer craft exhibits.
Arlington families hosted and visited relatives and friends across Indiana and nearby states. Residents from Greenfield Indianapolis Anderson Knightstown Coatsville and Milwaukee shared meals and greetings with extended kin during a busy Sunday.
Carthage Public Schools set organization day for August 29 with classes starting September 2. A complete list of Carthage teachers is provided, detailing kindergarten through senior high assignments plus athletics and art. Other Rush County schools follow similar schedules while Kindergarten begins September 14. A county teachers institute is planned for August 30 at the Rush County Courthouse.
Last week introduces a farmers and farm youth column. August 15 is the 4H entry deadline for the Indiana State Fair, August 27 to September 4. Local members plan exhibits. Rushville hosts Fifth Southeastern Indiana 4H Market Barrow Show and Sale featuring Roy and Buddy Willey. Purdue Swine Day is August 22 at Purdue University with limited rider space. Delegates from Rush County to the State Fair Boys Camp named, and program changes include single classroom periods and new reference books.
Plans are under way for the Southeastern Indiana District 4H Fat Steer Show and Sale sponsored by the Rushville Chamber of Commerce for the twelfth year. The event will be held Saturday September 13 at the Rush County Fair grounds with special ribbons for all exhibitors and a large 16 by 24 inch felt banner for each steer exhibitor. Entries are to be made on a special entry blank.
