Thursday three bandits robbed Ralph Welsh an employee of the First National Bank of Wood River Illinois as he left the post office. They took three packages containing 34000 dollars intended for Shell Petroleum Refinery Roxana near Wood River Illinois.
The second largest money winner in horse racing history, Equi Poise, died after a sudden illness. An autopsy was planned and carried out to determine the cause, with no definite diagnosis yet. The son of Pennant Swirging fell ill Wednesday and died Thursday night before vets could diagnose.
A freak lightning bolt struck a crowded Jacob Reis park beach in New York killing three people and stunning fifteen others. Five bathers remained hospitalized all week in serious condition but expected to recover.

Joseph H. Hinshaw, 77, longtime Knightstown Banner city editor and veteran newspaper man, died Sunday after a brief illness. A Knightstown resident all his life, he joined the Banner soon after its 1867 founding and earlier worked with the Knightstown Sun, owning a one third stake. Survivors include daughter Marjorie Rogers and grandson Raymond Rogers of Logansport. wife Orie James Hinshaw died 17 years ago.
Dr Joseph Moore district superintendent of Rushville will lead in the communion service and preach the morning sermon at Fletcher M E Church on Sunday after Sunday school. The August 14 fourth quarterly conference will discuss next year plans and report committee results. Five Sundays remain in the conference year until the annual meeting at Roberts Park M E Church.
Mr and Mrs Finley Nelson and daughter Shirley Ann, Mr and Mrs Ralph Siler and Mrs Siler s sister Mrs Peg Hiatt attended the Shelbyville fair Sunday evening.

Henry Stenger offers two East Mill Street plots to Carthage for a public tennis court and a potential softball diamond. The idea aims to provide a youth play area with a supervised recreation program, funded by city oversight. Stenger will maintain taxes if the city takes charge. The Carthage Service Club project committee may decide soon with a goal of starting this fall and providing summer activities for children.

The Chrysler factory at New Castle restarted last week with several hundred workers recalled to start 1939 model work. Employees are being hired back at their old wage scales for similar jobs to those held in December when operations ceased.

Mr. and Mrs. H. O. Pitts took a motor trip last week through Dunes Park Indiana and along Lake Michigan to Ludington visiting friends for two days. They traveled east and south returning via Grand Rapids Kalamazoo Battle Creek Sturgis to Indiana. They lament the dearth of Michigan peaches grapes and apples this season with all crops killed in early spring. they are tracking peaches from southern Illinois.
The semi annual meeting occurs Thursday evening August 18 at Ella Moore property with a lawn basket supper. Arthur B. Carr from the Indianapolis children's museum will speak on the value of museums to the community and schools. Antiques moved from the library will be on display from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. everyone is invited.
