Beat Mrs. Wilbur Gatewood and children Ronnie Bonita and Vicki returned Saturday from a two weeks vacation. The first week was with Mrs. Gatewood's brother William Elliott and family of Port Huron Michigan on Lake Huron. Wilbur and Charles Gatewood joined the family in Ludington Michigan for an enjoyable week of fishing and swimming.
Rev. Robert Kendall of near Spokane Washington will speak at 10 30 a m Sunday August 4 during the worship service at Carthage East Street Christian Church. A fellowship dinner follows at noon and a board meeting is held in the afternoon. Everyone is urged to attend.
Mr and Mrs Clyde E Ruby returned to Carthage Saturday evening after a seven day tour to Canada. They spent several days at Blind River Ontario exploring points of interest.
Mr and Mrs Robert McKain Mr and Mrs Dale May of Carthage and Mr and Mrs Wayne Draper of Arlington attended a tenth district American Legion meeting at the Connersville Legion Post Saturday night.
The Fletcher Methodist Church will hold a special meeting on Monday August 5 at 8 p.m. The session will discuss aspects of a building program and invites all members friends and interested individuals to attend.
Mr and Mrs Howard Windsor and Kelly Veach of Carthage and Mr and Mrs Billy Windsor of Knightstown returned Saturday July 27 to their homes after a two week stay in Miami Florida They enjoyed sight seeing trips deep sea fishing and visited Hialeah Race Park the sea aquarium at Crandon Park and attended Cinerama Holiday at Miami Beach.
Six attendees and their families gathered for the 1943 class reunion at Greenfield Park on Sunday. Participants included Mr. and Mrs. Robt McKain and children, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Carson Jr and children of Carthage, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Stephens and children, Mr. and Mrs. Don Wagoner and family of Indianapolis, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Colwell and family of Angola.
A reception honoring Rev. and Mrs. Basil Stultz was held last Wednesday evening in the basement of Carthage East Street Christian Church. A short musical program by the church youth accompanied by a program chairman John A. Ruby. Photos showcased Stultz ministry events at the Carthage Church and the couple received a gift in thanks for their services. Refreshments followed the social.
Members and their families of the Fidelity Class of the Fletcher Methodist Church enjoyed a picnic dinner and social Tuesday evening at 6 30 p m at Greenfield Park.
The 1956 Carthage High School graduating class gathered at Greenfield Park for a Sunday picnic dinner. Seven of seventeen members attended with spouses and guests including Suzanne Bramel and Larry Bramel Clifford Miller Rosalee Womack and others. Principal Ira J. Meade and his daughter Jane joined as guests. The day was spent socially.

Principal Charles Morris announces Organization Day for the new school year will be Friday August 30 at 8 am. Classes begin September 3 after the Labor Day weekend. A. W. Winfield says the faculty list is nearly complete with one vacancy still open. Parents are cautioned to avoid dungarees with copper rivets that damage seats and desks.
The Indiana Annual Conference of the Wesleyan Methodist Church runs August 5 to 10 with evangelists O G Wilson S I Emery H Robb French and J Byron Crouse leading the camp meeting starting August 11. No preaching at Carthage Church August 11 and 18. Attend Conference and Camp Meeting.
Mrs Etna Mathley and her grandson Kenneth will move to 6806 Nebraska Ave Tampa Florida leaving August 12 and plan to stay through the winter months.
The M.Y.F. met Monday at 7 30 with twenty six members enjoying badminton croquet and refreshments at the Stan Lynch home. They moved to the church for singing and devotion before a business session led by vice president Pamela Hunt which approved a Watermelon Feed in August.

Mr and Mrs Melvin Zimmerman of Carthage welcomed daughter born Monday at Rush Memorial Hospital. Mr and Mrs Benjamin Conley of Carthage welcomed son born Wednesday at Rush Memorial Hospital.
Rev Rex B Krieg of Carthage Wesleyan Church will deliver a farewell message August 4 after his resignation in May. The resignation takes effect at the conference start August 5 due to his parents illness. Rev Robert Malone becomes new Carthage Wesleyan Methodist pastor and will preach August 25 after three years at Converse Indiana.
Sheriff's officers arrested Sheman R. Dye twenty eight of Carthage at his home last week on a warrant from federal authorities. Dye was charged with A W O L from the U S Army at Fort Leonard Wood in February this year. Army authorities from Fort Harrison took him into custody.
Mr and Mrs Delmar Si and daughter Patricia and Mr and Mrs Caleb Marsh and children Judy and Larry attended the Cincinnati Brooklyn baseball game in Cincinnati Friday night.
Bob Stanley son of Mr and Mrs Roy Stanley Carthage RR has entered six months of military training act He left Sundays for Leopard Wood Missouri.
Mr and Mrs Freddie Magee attended the funeral for Mrs Magees father William Bunyard who died in Cincinnati on Thursday July 25. The Metamora Methodist Church hosted services Saturday at 2 pm.
Carthage baseball teams won four games last week, beating Manilla 8-7 and Arlington 16-4. In the Manilla game Aker and Houston led with three hits each including a homer. Ruby and O'Brien had two RBIs apiece. Box score shows Carthage 3 3 0 0 0 0 1 1 8. Manilla 3 2 0 0 0 0 2 0 7.
Arlington wins 9 to 6 over Carthage in a game featuring 14 walks 6 hits and 4 errors for Carthage. Fanine led Carthage with 3 for 4 while VanSeycc and Wooten added two hits for Arlington. Batteries: Carthage Robertson Patterson. Arlington Wolf Binder and VanScyoc.
Carthage High School beat Greenfield 17 to 6 and Manilla 4 to 2 after a rough game against Greenfield with six errors by each side. Pat Watkins went 4 for 5 to pace Carthage while pitchers Trowbridge and Wat ns contributed. Greenfield bate rs Willard and Gray worked the mound.
In a tight game, Carthage breaks a deadlock with four hits and an error in the sixth inning to score four runs. Trowbridge delivers the tying single driving in two, while two more score on a fielding error by Willy. Box score shows Manilla 12 hits 2 runs 0 errors and Carthage 4 runs on 4 hits with an error. Eliza Dewees was granted a divorce from Cecil Dewees and awarded custody of their two children.
Mr and Mrs Hubert Hunt and daughter Pamela hosted Mr and Mrs John Medjeski and son Mike for an outdoor barbecue on Wednesday evening.
Kathryn Elder of Dana and Marion Holsapple of Orleans were named 1956 state winners in 4-H Citizenship. Kathryn served Merry Mixers club as president and junior leader, while Marion, a 12 year member, was twice honored for citizenship. The awards honor Thos E Wilson and are conducted by Purdue Extension Service with USDA backing.
Arlington won its third straight county softball championship by beating Cities Service 2 to 1 at Memorial Park. Norm Morris pitched two hits allowed as Arlington edged ahead with four base hits in the fourth inning. Carl Michel drove in Cities Service’s only run in the first.
Arlington defeated Carthage 10 to 2 after a seven-run seventh inning. Rucker and Hyatt homered for the defending tournament champs, Cooley added two hits, and Carthage’s lone hit came on a sixth-inning homer by R MalNanisla MACVUIAIC.
About 600 Indiana 4 H members are expected for the 30th annual Boys State Fair 4 H Club Camp at the Indianapolis fairgrounds from Aug 27 to Sept 7. Registrations must reach the State Fair manager in Indianapolis by Aug 15 though capacity may be reached earlier. Two Purdue scholarships valued at 620 and 570 dollars over four years will be awarded based on exhibitor records and camp achievement. Dormitory meals and lodging are provided. eligible attendees include 4 H members with fair exhibits or those on State Fair judging teams or who earned camp trips.
Final rites for Eugene H. Dickerson a Rushville resident 56 died Saturday at 9 15 am were conducted at 2 pm at Moster and Sons Mortuary with burial in East Hill Cemetery. He lived at 823 North Oliver worked at Wilhelm's Cafe born December 9 1900 in Carthage son of Douglas and Grace Porter Dickerson and survived by a sister Mrs Jesse McFarland and several nieces

The Ripley Needletwister 4-H Club met July 25 1957 in Home Beat at 2 00. President Marcia Leisure led the meeting with Pam Hunt providing group singing. Nancy Copple read and approved the minutes with 28 present and health and safety noted. A party sandwich demonstration followed by a tap dance number concluded the session before recreation and refreshments.
Philip Hardin ages 11 of Morristown drives the Kopper Kettle Special to victory in the 11th annual Lions Club Cub Scout coaster race on US Highway 52. Steven Hardin, last year’s winner, also had the same car. Guffin and Kenneth Stanley won more lap money, and eighteen entrants competed with no injuries as pet parade and 4-H exhibits accompanied the event.
Veteran singer Guy Mitchell will perform in the Indiana State Fair Coliseum shows on August 31 and September 1. Once a chart-topping star with My Heart Cries For You, he gained fame in both the United States and Britain.
Arrangements for the Eleventh Annual Southeastern Indiana District 4H Fat Steer Show and Sale were advanced at a Rushville meeting. The event, sponsored by the Rushville Chamber of Commerce and merchants, will be held Saturday September 14 in the Rush County Fairgrounds Livestock pavilion, with judging by Steve Reed and prizes from national breed associations and local sponsors. The show starts at 8:30 A.M. weigh-in by 8:00 A.M., sale at 1:00 P.M., Grand Champion steer sold at 1:30 P.M., auctioneer Hoyt Vanderbeck.
Mr and Mrs Teddy Ashby and daughter of Alexandria were Saturday visitors of Mr and Mrs Russell Roland. Myrtle Miner of Cincinnati is visiting the Humes home this week as Mr Humes shows improvement after returning from the hospital.
