Mr and Mrs Keith Ray welcomed a daughter born Saturday April 9 at Rush Memorial Hospital. The event adds a new member to the family and notes the time and place of birth.
The Lions Club calls for more acts two weeks before the talent show set for Friday April 29 in the Community Center auditorium. Interested performers should contact Hubert Hunt or Frank Hampton by next week to apply.
Businesses in Carthage will close Friday afternoon from 12 to 3 as Good Friday services proceed. The Carthage Friends Church will host services at 2 p.m. led by Rev. Robert Kendall.
Mrs. Noah Leisure entered the New Castle Clinic Wednesday for major surgery. Mrs. Lowell Leisure also entered the clinic Wednesday for major surgery this Thursday. Larry Nigh, son of Mr and Mrs Bob Nigh, will enter Riley Hospital Tuesday April 19 for major heart surgery April 21 at Robert Long Hospital. Blood donors are reminded to give blood April 20 at 2 p.m.
Rachel King Bertha Beck Vera McNabb and Hazel Alexander attended the 10th District American Legion Auxiliary meeting Tuesday at the Rushville Legion Home.
The Ripley Township Farm Bureau will meet Monday April 18 at 7 p.m. in the Community Center. Members should bring a salad or vegetable dish. meat drinks and dessert are provided.
A meeting of the people of Ripley Township is set for April 19 at 8 00 p m at the Community Center Building. The session will discuss the School Reorganization Act and its impact on Carthage School and will elect five advisory county commission members. County representatives will explain the Act and answer questions. William H Skinner urges patron attendance and written questions for the chairman, though floor questions are allowed.
Arlington driver Cletus E. Luther 28 struck the rear of Richard Gordon Johnson 49 as both cars on the Public Square at West Washington Street. Luther’s car damage listed at 175 dollars and Johnson’s at 150 dollars.
Rush County real estate sales remained weak in March per county recorder records. Estimated March sales totaled 151000, the lowest March figure since 1963, with year to date at 363000 versus 596000 for the first quarter in 1959.
Marvin Knoop, league director, invites persons to enter teams in the Arlington Softball League this summer. Contact by phone or card before the last week of this month. A league organization meeting will be held early in May, with the date announced later.

The Carthage Future Farmers of America met April 12 at 7 00 p.m. in the Ag room with 14 members present. New officers were elected led by President Mike Heim and Vice President Glen Smith. Delegates Glen Smith and Bob Cooper will attend the FFA convention in Purdue with others traveling later. Ronnie Fannin to join the State FFA Band.
Residents of Union Township chose Adrian Eckart Ray Smith Fred Martin Wayne Daubenspek and Mrs Clarence Arnold for the advisory committee. Center Township selected Ishmael Knoy Mark Ellis Joe White Walter Hall and Raymond Delay. Noble Township named Harold Norris Ennis Rose Elvin Comer Norman Wilson and Charles Wilson. Jackson Walker and Anderson Townships chose members Cecil Hartman Ray Bosse Charles Tennyson Wendell Kirkpatrick Jerry Edmonson Robert Mohr Carl Kuhn Francis Fletcher Paul Norris James R Anderson John Meek Cedric Powers James Turecek Glen Hungerford.
Milroy High School won the Rush County Dairy Judging Contest with coach Phillip Mitchell and team members Tom Lanter Bill Stiers Ed Newham and John Gasser. Arlington High School placed second coached by Paul Potts with Larry Ross Tom Swain Richard James and Virgil Hendershott. The high scorer was Larry Ross of Arlington. top ten also included Doug Norris Tom Lanter Bill Stiers Ed Newham John Gasser Bobby Wilson Philip Bacon Alyn Leisure and Mike Butler. Milroy and Arlington earned spots to represent Rush County at the district contest on April 19.
Cub Scout Den No 2 met at Mrs Lettie May's home on Tuesday April 12 with seven Cubs present. They recited the Pack Law played games and sang songs. Den chief Jerry May taught a new trick and Gary Osborn acted as denner. Refreshments were provided by Billy Back and Mrs May. Next meeting set for Tuesday April 19 at 4 00 pm at the den mother's house.

Mrs Margaret L May 83 of Washington Township Fayette County died suddenly at home three miles northwest of Falmouth at 7 15 p m Wednesday after one day illness She was a longtime Orange Township resident Christian Church member born February 9 1877 She married Albert R May September 20 1899 Survivors include three sons Paul Roland Charles and others two daughters ten grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren plus two sisters and two brothers with several relatives noted
The Rush County Ministerial Association gathered at Carthage Friends Church on Monday April 11 at 10 30 a m for an Easter worship service. Rev M O Johnston offered invocation scripture was read by Rev Larry Conrad and prayers by Rev Paul Mayfield. The message, The Greater Discovery, was delivered by Rev E E Young. A Council of Churches committee attended and offered guidance. The Friends Guild served lunch after a brief business session.
The Greenfield Brotherhood and Sisterhood holds a regular meeting at the Greenfield Memorial Building on Monday April 18 at 6 30 for a ham supper and pitch in. The New Castle kitchen band provides entertainment.
State Senator Joel Rhodes, Republican candidate for Congress from Indiana's 10th District, spoke before about 50 people in Eaton. He urged conservatives in Congress to oppose Democratic programs and criticized federal aid and the White House Conference on Children and Youth as flawed and biased.
The Lions Club of Carthage will sponsor a Boy Scout Troop and Cub Scout Pack totaling 50 boys in the Tenonkah District. Dr. John Riechle announced the effort with Dr. Richard McNabb named Institutional Representative and a full slate of Cub and Troop leaders and den mothers guiding the new units. The Whitewater Valley Council supports the venture as part of the Rush County United Fund.
The Den 3 Cubs met after school at Mrs. Ralph McClurg home with seven members present. Den chief Philip Manuel opened with a magic rope trick and a brief business meeting followed. Mike McClurg was elected Denner for April and planning for the pack meeting exhibit was discussed. Next meeting set for Friday April 15 at 3 30 p m at Mrs Joe Porter’s home.
The C W F gathered last Thursday at the Christian Church for its April session. President Ruth Jackson led the meeting with Louise Reddick presenting the secretary's report. A playlet by Eva Wagoner Maude Shull Joanna Gibson Bonnie Spence entertained, with Mrs Lucas of Greenfield on piano. A $100 gift from Alexander Mathley of Huntsville in memory of his mother Etna Mathley was announced. Refreshments were served by Bertha Beck Louise Reddick and Bonnie Spence.
The 1960 Census of Population and Housing enters its final stage on April 16 when interviewers begin a mopping up operation to complete the ten year inventory of the Nation's people and their homes. Clean up teams will visit households with unreturned blue questionnaires and resolve blanks or errors by phone and in person.
