Easter services and events at Fletcher M E and Friends Church

Death of Arlington Resident Eli Collins at 60

Eli B. Collins aged 60 died Sunday at his home west of Arlington. Survived by his widow two children a son and a daughter a half brother and a half sister Mrs Alonzo Kizer of this place. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 10 30 AM at the Christian Church in Arlington with attendees from the area.

Carthage Commencement Exercises Planned for May 13

The thirty seventh Carthage schools commencement will be Friday night May 13 in the new auditorium. Rev L B Brown of Rushville will deliver the address with Cole's Orchestra providing music for the ten graduates Eleanor Henley Gertrude Parker Mildred Haywood Marie Gatewood Mabel DeMoss Earl Nigh Floyd Gray George Gray John Leisure Cecil Stewart. Baccalaureate sermon May 8 at Friends Church by Dr Alexander C Purdy of Earlham College.

Flooding and Cold Snap Damage Rural Areas Last Week

Heavy rains and Easter Sunday downpour caused the Big Blue river to overflow its banks and flood low lands. Smaller streams overflowed, hindering rural mail carriers school bus drivers and farm families. A freezing spell followed Monday night and Tuesday, with probable damage to many fruit trees.
