The Pinal church rehearses for its Christmas program titled A Service of Carols and Candles tonight at Tad. About 20 people have practiced for weeks. The service includes O Holy Night and other songs and ends with a candle lighting ceremony. Directed by John J. Mitchell, the public is invited.
North Texas College coach Coaen Gaus was guest at Carrollton High School’s banquet in the school lunch room. Principal Date Be Davis presided with remarks by Dr. Job Mitchell and coaches Mitchell and Sky Green. 104 attended. captains Joe Marlin and Pat Roach spoke. Gaus Mitchell praised clean football and the Will to win. career highlights included conference titles and bowl clubs.
Coach Mitchell hosted an event highlighting a guest speaker and a student from the North Texas program. His son, Siuidy, displayed coordinated ball handling and control during a showcase that preceded a classroom auditorium demonstration. The night closed with a mini-ball game between North Texas and Easy Teane narrated by Mitchell.
State Health Officer Dr Gro W Cox urged all schools to implement a comprehensive health program. The plan includes clean drinking water, nutritious lunches, adequate ventilation, lighting, and physical activity, plus hygiene education and coordination with local health departments.
The City of Farmers Branch plans a Christmas program with carols and a Community Christmas event. A short program will be held with a Santa gift for every child, including items for needy families.
Chronicle announces the Christmas edition will publish next Friday morning. Advertising will be solicited during the week and the first ten days of the next week for the editions.
The home of Mr Weil Smith on Denton Drive was entered Sunday night. Entry was gained through a back door. Two empty purses were found. one belonging to Ella Moe Butler contained £10. Mrs Smith and her husband reported $10 missing. The sheriff was notified.
More than 500 members of the United Nations Secretariat are en route to New York and Paris to join the assembly proceedings, with officials planning sessions for next April.
Mr and Mrs Weldon Pumice of Coppell announce the birth of Joe Alten Plaintee on Amber 9 at Allsop Clints Crapo ving.
A public safety campaign led by Governor Beauford Jester calls Texans to reduce Christmas travel deaths and injuries. The Texas Department of Public Safety forecasts 85 deaths and about 2800 injuries in a ten day period from December 24 to January 1.
Carrollton high school cagers claim first Invitational title at Duncanville defeating Grapevine 30 20 and Cedar Hill 38 18 in early rounds. George Kelley nets winning field goal in OT against Duncanville 22 20. Joe Martin and Pat Rosch named to All Tournament first team. Local girls exit early as Cedar Hill edges them. Dr Pepper Invitational invite for December in Dallas noted. Legion events at Carrollton on December 33 include Santa Claus visit and Christmas party with dues due by December 20.
DeWitt Ray accepted the chairmanship of Callas County Red Cross drive for 1949. The national goal was set for 315 million dollars less than 1948, with the campaign beginning March 1. Ray, former co chair of 1948, is a banker and church leader. In Dallas County, Volunteer Services reported 94 784 volunteer hours since January 1948, with women contributing many roles across hospital aid and welfare services.
The Symns flower shop will open for business on Saturday December 18 at 1421 Third Street just west of the city across the railroad. Mr Bymins disclosed the location and timing.
Drillers are busy in the Frisco area where two test wells are being explored for oil. One well lies about a mile northeast of the town, down over 1 000 feet, with drilling started two weeks ago. A second test is underway between the town and Little Elm, with bore depth over 7 000 feet and potential to reach greater depths.
The Junior Red Cross Council at Cornell yh completed two Christmas projects this week. It sponsored a gift drive for two Gor aleana orphans with Lions Club support and student funds used to buy clothing. A second drive collected canned goods for needy families in the community.
