Connally Invited to Dinner for Rep Purcell Ceremony
Gov. Connally is among dignitaries invited to the Purcell Appreciation Day dinner on December 6 at Hubbard Hall on the Texas Woman’s University campus. The event begins at 7 pm with tickets $15 each or $25 for a pair, obtainable by mail to Purcell Committee Box 100 Denton or at Denton banks. The guest list includes U.S. Senator John Tower and state leaders such as Lt. Gov. Preston Smith, Crawford Martin, Waggoner Carr, Ben Barnes, Ralph Hall, Tom Creighton, Jack Hightower, Don Kennard, George Parkhouse, Alonzo Jamison, Vernon Beckham, Don Heston, W. T. Dungan, James W. EMTEX Plant Strikers To Be Replaced In Carrollton
About 150 EMTEX workers, a Barfield Industries division in Carrollton, failed to report for first shift. A 0c across the board wage demand sparked the walkout by UAW Local 165 members, with 35 percent of Barfield’s 550 workers in the union. The company plans to replace absentees after three days unless they return by Thursday. Non striking staff concentrate on Snake-eye production to meet defense contracts and delivery schedules. Upfield says no violence occurred and notes the union’s high wage demand was unlikely. a 38¢ hourly raise over three years was rejected. Non union workers are being shifted to cover lost time on defense programs alongside Asroc and Talos work.
