The father of Mrs. W. J. Thomas of Carrollton, Texas, Mr. Roberts of Itasca, died August 16 in Gatesville Hospital. He had visited his daughter here often and made many friends who extend sympathy to the family.

Clarence T. Clem of Carrollton will become a non commissioned officer in the NTAG cadet corps when its organization is effected September 13. Announcement was made by Colonel Eagar Kelner NTAC PMSAT.
Texas schools face a surge from a postwar birth boom. Charles H. Tennyson of the Teachers Association says enrollment may rise by 80,000 in four years and 180,000 within nine years, requiring 2719 more teachers and extensive classroom expansion amid overcrowded schools.
The Bomar Circle of the Methodist Church gathered Monday night at Mrs. Jack Blanton’s home. A brief devotional was given by Mrs. Robert Ridley, and guest speaker Miss Alta Frances of McKinney spoke. Members discussed new chairs curtains for a Sunday School room and autumn bazaar projects.
Nathan Adams Fred Florence and R Le Thoroton accept co chair manship of the Big Gifts division for the 1948 Dallas County Cam Community Chest campaign. Their goal is 53162 and 137000 increase over last year with twenty five leading businessmen chosen to assist. The Big Gifts group will start direct solicitations immediately.
The second peacetime draft will begin Monday August 30 and run through September 10 with men aged 19 to 25 registering at Carrollton City Hall under Mayor Bob Connell. Registration hours, age-group schedule, and exemptions are listed, noting exemptions for active duty military and certain officials. Farmers Branch registration will be at Farmers Beane Baptist Church.
The Warmers Branch Baptist Church schedules an old tyme camp meeting at River Orchards Farpiente grounds near Hartera Branch Saturday afternoon August 28 at 2. The event features boat riding horseshoe and washer games horseback and surrey riding and good eating. An evening program includes an old tyme prayer meeting led by Brother George Sogen from Washington Street Church of Greenville Texas. Rev. Gola Bailey invites all to bring a basket and attend.
Plano Texas August 21 North Texan will visit next Monday and Tuesday August 30 and 31 with a motorcade declaring the Gainesville community event coming September 7 and 3. The caravan will visit Garland Wylie Farmersville Princeton McKinsey and Allen on Monday afternoon then Richards Carrollton Lewisville Little Elm Frisco Lebanon and Irving on Tuesday afternoon. John Dean leads the motorcades with Rev Tack Elzey and E A Bundt es at the microphone. Minnie Peart and Jake Bullshinsky will appear in the parade with fiddling singing and wing dancing and last minute shopping for Thursday or Friday night performances. Each show begins at 8 pm.
