Brig. Gen. Paul L. Wakefield stated that men over 40 or 50 who registered under the World War II draft act need not notify boards of address or status changes, since the act was terminated. Only those registered under the 1948 Act remain obligated, with dates governing who must register and when changes must be reported.
State Health Officer Dr Geo W Cox urges parents to ensure children have summer physicals dental and eye exams before starting school. He stresses regular checkups for health and vision, immunizations, and precautions against contagious diseases to protect classmates.
Beta Signis Phi announces contestants for the Amateur Talent Show to be held August 28 at 8 p.m. in the High School Auditorium. Proceeds go to Girtstown, U.S.A., Whiteface, Texas. The Baby Show is canceled. various age groups list many entrants including Dianne Bialsck Carmen Wilhite Lynn King Edward Noble and others.
The Rev. Smart is the new pastor coming from Nevada Collin County. He will deliver his first sermon Sunday morning. Rev. and Mrs. Smart have four children. They will live in Farmers Branch. Mr and Mrs 4.0 Daift announce the birth of baby Tanyah Francene at Dallas General Hospital on August 1 weighing pounds 2 ounces.
Southwestern State Telephone Company and the Communication Workers of America reached a one year wage increase for all employees covered by the contract. General manager D. T. Girlekrand announced the agreement which takes effect August 1, with Strickland noting rising costs may force rate increases if the cost of living and materials continue upward.
Thomas Howard six year old son of Mr and Mrs B C Howard of Carrollton was admitted to the Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas on Saturday August 5. The hospital has served crippled children for over 27 years and relies on individual contributions to provide the best medical care for those admitted.

CPL B G Crawford attends a multi state summer camp at Fort Sill with units from Texas Louisiana and California. He trains in gunnery fire direction procedures communications and weapon systems with the 846th Rocket Field Artillery Battalion and the South Armored Field Artillery Battalion as part of the two week encampment ending August 18.
The Carrollton Chamber of Commerce voted to meet with the City Council soon to urge expediting bond-supported projects including drainage work near the Methodist Church and the Stringfellow Addition sewerage bid. City Council previews fire station city hall and community house sketches amid easement and railroad grade disputes. Public budget hearing set for August 28 at 8 pm in the Carrollton Independent School District.
Postmaster G. F. Isom received a Washington notice confirming Mrs. A. R. Lowrey’s proposal for locating the post office in the old Placa theatre building has been accepted. The move will occur once final details are worked out.
