The Senate okays a 3.41 million drainage project in Dallas County paused earlier by the House. It calls for higher pump and sump capacity, pressure sewers, diversions, and gravity outlets to improve interior drainage and storm water disposal with anticipated annual benefits, while not committing further funds.
Mrs J Vanderwood will Install Coppell PTA officers at a 1 PM ceremony May 5 at Coppell Methodist Church. Last regular meeting April 4 at Coppell Baptist Thorety Apelt featured a panel on parent child relationships. Refreshments were provided by host teams Mrs Evan and Mrs Carden.
Texas Health Officer Geo W Cox commends state newspapers for their mass public education role. He notes editors provide valuable space on public health topics and praise radio and motion pictures as effective tools for venereal disease awareness and prevention efforts. The third annual Test-Demonstration meeting is mentioned with broader national participation.
A newborn boy was delivered April 3 at Florence Matringsle Hospital weighing 9% pounds. Parents are unnamed.
Seven pupils of the Pierce School of Dance performed for the Addison Parent Teacher Association on Tuesday at the Addison School. The pupils included Elizabeth Jane Fawers, Mary Lee Myers, Mile Pierce, Judy Thomas, Carole Phommmon, Betty Bob Andrews and Aileen Nobile.
Urnton Texas report states Sara Myers daughter of Mr and Mrs J D Myers of Carrollton was named a member of the Phi Gamma Kappa sorority at North Texas State College. Myers is a sophomore at NTBC and a member of the Gammadions honor society for underclassmen.
The Ladies Aid of the First Christian Church met at Mrs. Frank Borges home on April 17. Mrs. Bob Hunsaker, president, led the opening prayer and presided over the meeting attended by 13 members.
Dr. Walter Hodgson dean of North Texas state college was elected president of the Texas Association of Schools of Music at a Houston meeting. He succeeds Dr. E W Doty of the University of Texas and had served as vice president last year.
Grady Brooktre expresses gratitude to friends who voted for him in the Carrollton city election. He notes the narrow loss but says he is honored and grateful for the confidence shown. He pledges cooperation with Jim and others to improve the community.
The two day visit of a committee produced a favorable report noting Carrollton High School above average in most fields and superior in many. Recommendations include additional plant facilities a broader physical education program more staff to expand curriculum and an additional building.
Official letters report an April 1980 evaluation of Chrokton Public School. Dr Harold Stenholt coor dinator notes excellent progress, orderly facilities, and strong student spirit. Community growth requires additional space and planned changes to accommodate expansion.
Rhotons Department Store adds an X Ray Shoe Fitter as part of a remodeling program. Assistant manager Thompact notes the project is on schedule with the new front completed and floor work due to finish by late April.
Revival continues at First Baptist Church in Dallas County as 140 Baptist churches join in a two week evangelistic effort. The nationwide crusade spans churches west of the Mississippi with major participation and ends with the Carrollton church hosting a final service titled Jesus Is Coming Again.
Fourteen Carrollton students joined 36 peers from 40 schools at the North Texas Youth Conference in Highland Park. Carrollton elected vice president for 1981 as sessions covered teamwork between school and community with talks by NTSC psychologist Dr. Bydney Hamilton and Highland Park performers. A supper and dance followed, with officers elected and plans set for future meetings and city beautification efforts.
Garnett Center now sole owner of Carrollton Auto Service effective April 2080. He previously partnered with Buddy Manning and will keep the business name. Center invites existing and new customers to visit the shop and support the change.
The Woman's Study Club met at Mrs. Marvin Loving's home on Thursday, April 6. A substitute pro fan presented an educational film on cancer by representatives of the American Cancer Society. The annual supper with husbands as honored guests is planned for next Tuesday, April 25, at Mr. and Mrs. Henry Noble's home.
Kent Frade announces a preschool roundup for six and seven year olds at the Orace School building. Sponsored by the school and PTA, the event offers immunization information, entertainment, and transportation by PTA volunteers. Mothers are urged to bring their children next Friday.
A preschool clinic will be held at Farmers Branch School today from 9 am to 1 pm. Nurse will be on hand to assist and Dr Pine will attend after 1 pm to examine children.
