Mike Macke Memorial Park opens near Lake City to honor 23 year old Mike Macke, a Lake City native and Iowa State University graduate, with a 10 acre site along Lake Creek. The park includes a shelterhouse, restrooms, heated showers, tent and RV camping, a sand beach, 1200 trees, hiking trails, and donation based camping fees. Macke's father Gus recalls his son's farming life and ISU honors, and invites community support through donations of labor benches and trees.

Record set at 2002 Relay for Life fundraiser
The 2002 Relay for Life raised 170351.73 dollars for the American Cancer Society, a new record and six thousand dollars more than last year, with totals expected to grow as teams submit more funds. Organizer Kathryn Braddy called the event very positive and outstanding. A wrap-up and awards ceremony is planned for July 10 at 7 p.m. at the Carrollton Centre to recognize sponsors and announce the 2003 event date.

Celebration Bus Tour Stops Across County July 1
The Celebration Bus arrives in the area July 1 from 8 to 11 a.m. with official escort by the Sheriff's Department. It will stop at West Central in Ralston, Glidden, the Carroll County Courthouse, and Manning Regional Healthcare Center with Windstar Lines providing transportation for survivors and Relay volunteers. Messages and signatures are being collected on the bus.
