Dream Origin of Baptist Children Home in 1917
The Baptist Children Home near Carmi began in 1917 after a push by the Illinois Baptist Association. Land acquisitions by Carmi citizens and donations funded a 40 acre site and a later 40 acre addition. The first building was completed in 1918 and dedicated in 1919, with more structures and acreage added over the years. The home now houses 64 children, supports foster placements, and operates with private gifts, not tax or government funds.
