Schools Open for 1918 19 Session at Carlisle and Haddon
Carlisle and Haddon Township high schools began the 1918 19 term Monday after a week’s delay without a principal. Three prospects declined before Saturday, so the vacancy remains. A Domestic Science music and drawing teacher, Miss Earnestine Foester of Tell City Indiana, was hired. Paxton and Haddon Township schools start next Monday September 23 with all positions filled except one Paxton high school post. Council Seeks Expanded Membership for War Council
Haddon Township Council of Defense plans to grow its ranks at its regular Carlisle meeting held in the Public Library. Chairman C E Curtis announced women officers Mrs Anne Walters of Paxton Mrs Carrie Roberts and Mrs Cynthia Clayton of Carlisle. Meetings are biweekly with next gatherings at Paxton School October 1 and High School Auditorium Carlisle October 15 both at 8:00 PM.

Reverend Brinklow Receives War Trophies From France
Pleasantville clergyman Rev. Arthur Brinklow, whose two sons serve in the Rainbow Division, has received a gas mask and helmet captured from Germans on the firing line. He also has a letter from his sons saying a package was sent and that they will tell the story later.

Registration drives turnout in Hadon and Sullivan counties
The 15 to 21 and 31 to 46 year old men registered quietly in Haddon township with 419 names and Sullivan county totals reaching 3798. Registrars required duplicate cards and many local young ladies offered help. a full Hadon township list will appear in the next issue.

Auto Accident Involving Dixie Garage Employee
Harry Alsop an employee of the Dixie Garage with two Carlisle boys Ted Johnson and Harry Organ were returning from Shelburn Tuesday night when a stranger in a large car crowded them off a bridge one mile south of Shelburn Their Ford landed in the water and the youths were dumped into the river The stranger brought them to Sullivan and by Wednesday morning only fire damaged parts remained at the scene suggesting the car was burned or set afire Some burned matches were found near the machine fueling the fire theory.
