Carlisle Mercantile Co. reports a business trip by Robbins to Indianapolis on Thursday returning Saturday morning. The party attended the state fair during the trip. An item priced at 50 cents appears alongside 1 123c and 25¢ in the ad notes.
Dr. J R Whalen forwards a state health directive from Dr J N Hurty. Beginning October 1 births must be recorded like deaths with penalties for nonreporting: first offense ten to fifty dollars, second offense fifty to one hundred, third offense one hundred dollars. Similar penalties apply to deaths and contagious diseases and officers must enforce the law.
The White Sox won two consecutive games against the Terre Haute Velvets at Athletic Park on Sunday. Despite Velvets adding three league players, the Sox dominated with errorless defense in game one and only one error in game two. The Velvets, visiting for the fifth time this year, struggled both games, while the Sox extended their season win streak.
Doc Morgan reports a seven foot potato vine found near his patch and dug up only one small potato. he predicts vines could yield one hundred sixty three potatoes if similar results repeat.
W B Akin and wife and son Surtner returned Friday to Pittsburg after a month with W J Gurtner and family and Mr and Mrs J S Akin. Mrs Samuel Cheek of Terre Haute came home Friday after visiting relatives. Will Brown of Vincennes visited Sunday. M G Roberts returned Friday from Illinois oil fields. Celena Latshaw did business in Sullivan Saturday. Hamet D Hinkle of Vincennes transacted business early in the week. Mrs M G Couch and daughter Josephine returned Friday to Lawrenceville Illinois. Mr Couch visited Thursday and rode home Friday with Isabelie.
Rev. C L Merriman, long time pastor at Mitchell and previously Indian Prairie Baptist Church, resigns to move with his family to Martinsville and begin pastorate there. The Martinsville congregation voted unanimously to extend the call after midweek services, and Merriman is expected to move and assume duties this month.
The Thursday Club of Carlisle gathered at Mrs. Arthur D. Cutler’s northeast Carlisle home with about sixteen prominent matrons and two invited husbands. The biweekly gathering featured a literary and musical program, refreshments of ice cream and cake, and cordial conversation. The next meeting is set for Thursday September 26 at Mrs. Thos J. Deable’s residence.
W. A. Taylor who lived five miles east of Carlisle on Pleasantville road held a public sale of his personal property on Wednesday September 11 before moving his family last Tuesday to St. George Georgia near the Florida line. He left Indiana seeking warmer climate for health reasons.

Mrs. James N. Roberts and her three sons Raymond Louis and Elliott went to Sullivan Sunday for services at the Catholic church.
