Cornerstone Laying Ceremony for New Schoolhouse

Masons hold an impressive Friday ceremony for the $16,000 schoolhouse cornerstone at 5:45 PM after rain delays. W E English of Indianapolis grand master oversees as a tin box with lodge records is sealed. About 150 people attend a star-shaped table display and banquet with 60 local and 75 to 100 visiting Masons from multiple lodges.

Five Get License in Sullivan County Saloon Drive

Oliver and James Dudley lost their monopoly as four new applicants win licenses to sell liquor in Sullivan. Algie Whitney, Worley, Edgar Rusher, and Levi B. Leach receive licenses despite 759 remonstrances. temperance forces concede defeat. In Vigo circuit court Charles Whitney wins by default and is granted the B. N. saloon license.

Masonic Ceremony Led by Grand Master Aydelotte in Carlisle

William E. Aydelotte of Sullivan presided as grand master during a three quarters hour ceremony. Other officers included Akin Chaney Lang Pirtle Whalen Hutchison Martin and Hon. John T. Hays who delivered the address. The event closed with a march to the opera house for a banquet.

Petition to Sell Land In Sullivan Circuit Court

Melvin Ellis as administrator of Alpha S. Hart's estate filed a petition in Sullivan circuit court to sell an undivided one sixth interest in 40 acres of land located in the eastern part of Haddon township. H. Ed.

Old Indiana Schoolhouse Had About 4000 Dollar Cost

1857 era brick work by Henry Heibecker of Bruceville Indiana is cited as the sole survivor of the contractors for the old building. The structure cost around four thousand dollars and was torn down a month ago to make way for a new schoolhouse on the same site. The petition lists interests and names including Hart Orion Hart Charles W Hart Lydia Bart John W Bart and Alma Wheeler among parties.
