Sam Riggs who built a restaurant and pool hall beside W. B. Shepherd’s saloon sold the business last Monday to Jake Rooksberry. Sam remains to help manage. George Ott, visiting relatives in town, returns to Fort Leavenworth after discharge and reenlistment headed for the Philippines. Hamet D. Hinkle of Vincennes was in town on business. Cecelia Grimes of Newport returns to Carlisle to lead fall millinery at R. W. Akin’s Son store.
A severe hailstorm swept across Indiana damaging crops and fruit, tearing leaves from trees and shredding corn stalks. Ears beaten off, melons ruined, and water filled streets as lightning struck multiple areas and a farm crib burned. Telephones down due to toppled poles. storm path about four miles wide, moving southeast across the state.
The open season for wild duck goose brant and other waterfowl runs from September 1 to April of the next year. Most hunting occurs on lakes with some on streams and ponds. A daily bag limit is fifteen. possession above that in one day is a misdemeanor with a ten dollar fine per bird. A three day limit is forty five birds for the shooter. Hunting from sunset to sunrise and in boats other than row or push boats is illegal.
Rev. R. R. Bulgin of Bethany Beach Del. opens a two week series at Providence Christian Church south of Pax tor next Sunday Sept. 15. Assisted by Rev. J. H. Mavity of Farrers burg, the sessions may extend if interest remains high.
The Carlisle town board adopted an ordinance fixing the 1907 General Fund tax at 30 cents per $100 and school bond interest at 10 cents per $100, plus a 25 cent poll tax. Emergency clause takes effect immediately. Delinquents were warned that final notices will precede suit, with several already paying or working taxes. Board approved various street and service payments.
Ed Douthitt visited his son Carl in Carlisle on Thursday while en route to Pleasantville. Mrs. Roy McCormick of Carlisle returned home after visiting Mrs. Doug Bell. Ed Eslinger of Carlisle lingered in the city en route home from Hymera. Mr and Mrs John Wilson of Carlisle passed through en route to Terre Haute. Mrs M K Eslinger returned home after visiting Mrs Murph Draper. Ed W Alin of Carlisle was in town en route to Terre Haute. C A Morgan of Carlisle passed through en route from Clinton. Cora Lucas arrived from Terre Haute and spent the day with her parents southeast of Carlisle. her brother Will Lucas accompanied her back to Terre Haute that night.
