Paxton Canning Factory Destroyed by Fire

A Paxton Canning Company building near the tracks burned Monday night around eight. The old factory, used now for storage, contained hay, straw for W. W. Bailey and others, and a car load of cement for Campbell Bros. of Brazil. Freight cars on the side track burned as well. Loss estimated at 40000 with 8000 insurance.

Trustee Selects Teachers in Haddon Township Schools

J Frank Spreatt, a trustee, has completed teacher selections for Haddon Township for the opening Monday September 1. Names include Principal J Of Alisman, and teachers Walter Whitlock, Zoe Close, Maude Daugherty, and others from various grades with connections to Carlisle and Marion in Indiana.

Poynter Buys Florida Daily Times in St. Petersburg

Paul Poynter, publisher of the Times and Democrat in Sullivan, has purchased the Daily Times at St. Petersburg, Florida, and assumed management of the property Monday. He will remain in St. Petersburg to oversee the new venture as the city’s only morning newspaper, established twenty one years ago.

Hutchison Sells Farm Near Carlisle to Knox County Farmer

Frank P. Hutchison sold an 85 810 acre farm just east of Carlisle to George Robbins of Widner township Knox county. The sale closed Thursday of last week at a total price of 11379 dollars, averaging 132.60 dollars per acre.

Civil War Veteran Stephen D Price Dies in Carlisle

Stephen D Price aged 77 of Carlisle died Monday September 2 at his nephew Ed C Johnsons home after wife Mary Calvert passed away in March. He served four years in the 17th Indiana Infantry and was a devout Christian, with services at the Christian church in Carlisle followed by burial at Ledgerwood cemetery. He leaves two nephews and one niece.

James Cowden Dead in Jefferson Township

James Cowden a longtime Jefferson township resident died at his home near Bethany church on Sunday September 1 after a lingering illness from chronic kidney trouble. He was 59 years 7 months and 5 days old. He is survived by his wife Caroline Douthitt and one stepson Floyd McCammon. Funeral services were held at Providence church on Monday and he was buried in McCammon cemetery west of Paxton.

Infant Ridge Walter M dies after illness near Carlisle

The six months old infant Ridge Walter M. son of Mr and Mrs Stephen Ridge of seven miles west of Carlisle died Tuesday afternoon after several days with a disease of infancy. Born January 15 1912 the child was laid to rest in Webb cemetery Tuesday afternoon.
