Aged Lady Nancy A Latshaw Dies at 84 in Haddon Township

Nancy A Latshaw aged 84 of Haddon Township died August 26 at the home of her daughter Ellen Perry south of Carlisle after years of illness. She married Decatur Latshaw in 1852 and reared five children plus several foster and stepchildren. Funeral was at Shaker Prairie Christian church with Rev. L V Barbie officiating. interment followed.

Physician Appeals Destruction of Property in Sullivan Case

Dr. G W Pirtle fined 15 and costs for malicious destruction of property in Squire Kirk ham s court at Sullivan, files an appeal bond of 100 with W H Crowd er Jr and J W Lind ley as sureties. Trial likely in Sullivan Circuit Court October term. Prosecution by Joseph B Roe agent for Lewis Publishing Co of Chicago. Roe says contract torn and histories unpaid. Pirtle denies all charges and fair hearing.

Burned by Gasoline Stove Incident at Pirtle Building

Deeble Brothers presser firm owner Will Deeble received a painful burn on his right hand Saturday morning while trying to move a leaking gasoline stove from the pressing parlors in the Pirtle building. The flare threatened the building and he was unable to work for several days.

Misses Glenn and Merlie Shepherd and Aimee Rogers attended the Christian church in Farmersburg Sunday as guests of Rev. L. V. Barbie. Joe Shepherd made a business trip to Sullivan Saturday. W. A. Berry and wife from Free landsville visited J. D. Howard who has been ill. County Surveyor W. L. Sisson of Sullivan was in Carlisle Thursday night and Friday. Rev. W. O. Angel preached at the Baptist church in Dugger Sunday.

Factory rep H Evers eyes Carlisle shale site for plant

W H Evers of Danville Illinois visited Carlisle to scout a clay and shale factory that would produce brick tile and hollow ware employing 150 to 3500 workers. The Terre Haute concern seeks a bonus or stock subscription to relocate here and will likely return with plans to locate the plant in Carlisle.

They Didn’t Marry In Carlisle Wedding Rumor

Carlisle Ind Aug 27 two prominent Carlisle youths Carl Knotts and Gertrude Cole man reportedly wed at the bride home with Rev Snyder of Kalamazoo Mich presiding They both deny the report saying they are victims of a prank played by an unknown person The Terre Haute Star notes the rumor could be a reporter's fabrication and not confirmed by THE News or local sources

Home From Hospital After Bellevue Mine Blast

Thomas St. Clair, burned in the Bellevue coal mine gas explosion weeks ago, returned home Saturday from St. Anthony's hospital in Terre Haute. He was accompanied by Rollie Humphreys' bookkeeper at the mine. St. Clair has recovered remarkably well.

Pit boss fined for drunken conduct at Carlisle mine

Id Scherry, pit boss at the Carlisle mine, was arraigned before Squire Wheeler on a charge of intoxication. Scherry pleaded guilty and was fined $1 plus costs totaling $5.75, which he paid.
