Comet Visible to Naked Eye Near Cassiopeia
Perrine's comet, discovered by Prof. Perrine of Lick Observatory, is brightening and visible without a telescope. At its Oct 8 close approach it sat about 85 million miles away, near Cassiopeia by the Pole Star, with a hazy tail and no distinct nucleus. In town, a Saturday disturbance on Main Street led to arrests. Homer Benefiel was struck by a brick near Prose and Wallace's barber shop, treated with seven stitches and recovering.
