Official Vote Tally Reports Wide Republican Victory
The official count from the November 4 1902 election shows Democrat Robert W Miers defeated Republican John C Chaney for congress by 789 votes. Miers carried Sullivan, Knox, Monroe and Martin counties while Chaney won Greene, Lawrence, Owen and Davie s. Raphael Thralls won joint senate seats over Henry M Simpson by 867. Republicans claim majorities in state offices and national positions, with Cyrus E Davis winning a Brown Greene and Monroe joint senate seat by 95 votes.

Lee Shaffer Dead After Sandborn Poisoning Incident
Lee Shaffer youngest son of Wm Shaffer formerly living here died at Sandborn last Friday evening from blood poisoning after a barber cut a facial sore. He was about 26, a Louisville medical college graduate who had come to Sandborn to practice. Remains laid to rest at Indian Prairie cemetery with Sandborn Ben Hur lodge services and Rev A L Tidrick assisting.
