Carlisle Election Returns From 1885 Privacy Town Vote
In Vincennes News clipping from May 7 1885 Carlisle election results show W H Sallee as Clerk and Treasurer with 91 votes. Trustees in First Ward were Joe T Akin 84 votes, W D Ballow 5, W J Curtner 1. Second Ward Trustee Tilford Alumbaugh 36, Frank Davidson 35, W E Cowle 24. Marshal votes went to Charlie Cummins 38, Walter Bugher 31, Jack Latshaw 21. Sam Riggs received none. Beatrice Beezley visits Carlisle with relatives. Remodeling at Akin Co flouring mills and housing projects noted.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur D Cutler hosted a Halloween party last Friday with 30 guests in costume. Activities included fortune telling, pumpkin slips predicting events, whistle contests, songs and piano solos, and a pumpkin prize for Chas D Naley. Apples, nuts, and time-honored Halloween customs capped the evening.

A man angered with his editor stopped his paper then sold coins below market price. His property was seized for taxes after missing the treasury sale. He was fined eight dollars for a Sunday hunting violation and paid eight hundred dollars for forged notes. He hired a large Irishman to assault him and threaten to knee him to force the paper to stop.
